There aren't any! The companies that own stations in that market aren't interested in hiring talented jocks. They want just what they need to keep their stations on the air and bodies to work their remotes so that the stations generate just enough revenue to justify existing in West Texas. :(

You beat me to it. Asking who are the top five jocks in that area is tantamount to asking who is....well whatever. The point is, what jocks? They are anything BUT that.

Which is sad, because West Texas comprises many communities with good people and loyal listeners. Corporate schmucks have taken away entertaining radio stations and replaced them with advertising outlets. ::)

For the most part, I agree with you...I'd say I agree with you about 95%...MOST of the talent in the Midland/Odessa market and surrounding areas as well ie...Abilene, Lubbock, and Amarillo and heck even El Paso which is pretty sad considering of its market size has very minimal talent but there are a few. Since we're just focusing on talent in Odessa, here's a few that have caught my attention when I'm rolling through or visiting my brother, sorry I can't give you five...only 3...sorry. There is a guy that does a morning show by himself on KBAT, goes by the name of Kotter I think, does a really good job, there is also a midday guy on KISS that does a really nice job as well, his name is AJ... that I think used to work in Lubbock, he has a real nice interactive show and hits the demo real well, and there's a pretty decent kid on at night too at Wild, I think his name is Danny G...there's a couple of other ones that aren't too bad either but yeah other than those three who have caught my attention, I gotta agree with you, talent is indeed lacking!

Come on with over 20 stations in Midland Odessa you mean to tell me you cant think of five good talents? Any Hispanic dj's

If you're talking about spanish stations, I don't listen, so I can't say but if you're just talking about jocks that are hispanic...I don't know, if I had to pick I would say Leo (the morning guy) on B93...he and Rebecca do a nice job...Kris Blaze on Wild isn't bad either. Those are honestly the only ones that stand out to me but then that's just my humble opinion. Merry Christmas!!

Whose name are you wanting to hear? You've asked this question in prior posts. What hispanic dj are you and at which station do you work? And why the race question? Does a person's race factor into his ability to be good on air?

1.Dre
2.A.J.
3.Michael Todd
4.kelley Peterson
5.John Moesh

It's a shame that San Angelo doesn't recieve credit when talking about West Texas radio

Midland/Odessa/Abilene can't touch what we had this past year in San Angelo on KIXY

David Carr - Mornings and one of the best PD's I know of
Teri Jacobs - Up and coming mid day talent
Logan James - now doing Country nights in market 60!
Chris Daniels - now doing Rhythmic nights in market 104!

then a few years back
Chris Cortez - now doing CHR nights in Joplin MO

also Chase O Reilly and Mac Thomas on KWFR bringing ratings back up on the rock station

Angelo jocks get no credit it seems...and yes before you ask I was one but that is irrelevant KIXY/KWFR really puts out a BIG market sound as opposed to some "mid to major" market clusters...

1. Corey Knight-B93 (sounds like a major market DJ everytime I hear him)
2. Michael Todd-95X (gives good phone)
3. Kelley Peterson-Kicks 99 (enthusiasm and charm)
4. Leo Caro-B93 (relatable and consistent delivery)
5. Kevin Porter-95X (smart and dry & Sunday Night Resurrection is the best specialty show in the market)

Hey this is kinda fun...I gotta agree with kinkaid...San Angelo does put out some pretty decent talent considering it's market size. KIXY is a very good station! Now as for Desert DJ and your top 5...not bad, I do like Corey over at B93, he has a lot of energy, and is very topical...my bad he definately is in my top 5! Not number 1 though...my revised list...

1. Kotter (KBAT) perfect for the demo, fits it to a T!

2. A.J. (KISS) Middays...works the phones a LOT and hits the at-work crowd and is very informative. I don't think either one of these first two guys will be in this market very long...very talented people.

3. Corey Knight (B93) I agree with everything that you said desertdj...he does sound like a big market talent, to me though sometimes sounds a little too dj'ish but other than that, I think Corey is a hell of a good talent!

4. Micheal Todd (95x) Always has some fun stuff going on in his show and is very knowledgable with the music and relates really well with that respective format.

5. Danny G. (Wild) My dark-horse pick here, he's young but has a ton of potential and is a very good mixer too.

That's my two cents worth... Happy Holidays to all!!
