Top Morning Show in Seattle

Who has the top morning show in Seattle 25-54 women on a four book? While Bob Rivers and BJ Shea are the top guy shows Quietly there has been a big change in the market this year. The arena is typically dominated by Ichibod and Kent and Alan. This year Tom McCarthy became the number one morning host in Seattle with women 25-54 and adults 25-54. Kent and Alan hang on by their aging fingernails to the number two position and Ichibod slipped out this year. With the addition of the new MOVIN morning host who Monti says is a "doll" Sandusky could have the top show in adults and 18-34 in the market. Mark (sorry marc) may quietly be taking the marcet by storm. Ya ya. By the way, worked with Mr. Cake at KBSG, look for a direct attack on McCarthy and Company with a gold-based AC. Big rumor that Bonneville may also be picking up another FM. This ladies money is on KPLZ. Gold AC and a Hot/AC could make for a battle for the ladies with Sandusky. ya ya good.

I would think the Mountain would have a diamond in the rough with Marty Reimer doing mornings after they juggled things around. How is his show doing?

Who is Tom McCarthy?
Darned good Q, Jackson! I had to google him. Voila: WARM 106.9. If he's #1 women and adults, 25-54, SOMEONE must know him. :)

Someone said he was an old KING weatherman, but now does radio. Notice no one mentioned who just slipped into third place 25-54 women on a four book. This cowboy McCarthy, who I have never heard of, is number one on wARm, Kent and alan and then: Fitz. Last trend Fitz was number two. My bet is kbsg goes right after mr McCarthy which means a whole new battle for number one.

This thread began with the question: "Who has the top morning show in Seattle 25-54 women on a four book?" by mamma. The real question is WHAT is the top morning show.....etc.,. It seems that no one has heard of Tom McCarthy yet that particular morning show, which he happens to host, is #1 in Seattle 25-54 women and 25-54 adults. So...is Tom McCarthy #1 or is the show #1? The answer is the show. It's the music and the limited features, news and traffic, not the host in this instance, that got those numbers. I had to google McCarthy to find how who he is even though I've listened to Warm 106.9 in the mornings. Pleasant to listen to but not a "personality." That's Fitz's, Shea's and Rivers' turf. I'm sure Tom is a nice guy, but HE is not #1, which begs a question brought on by another post that KBSG is going 'right after Mr. McCarthy'. Why? Am I barking up the wrong playlist?

The top rated mornings shows for women 25-54 on a four book are Tom McCarthy (I didn't know his name either) at KRWM, Kent and Alan on KPLZ and Ichabod on KMPS. Fitz replaces Ichabod in this lineup if you just look at the last two books. For men it remains Rivers at KZOK and BJ at KISW.

I suspect it is the music that brings people to stations like KRWM. The way agencies look at successful morning shows is how much they overperform the station's AQH share. The theory is that a great morning show should be better than the station and can charge a premium for commercials in morning drive. Only few in Seattle morning shows achieve that goal. The following station's morning shows significantly outperform their overall station rating by 20% or more (4-book) in order are:

KZOK
KPLZ
KIRO
KJR-AM
KNDD (driven primarily on a huge Winter 07 number)

The following station's morning shows underperform their overall station share:

KRWM
KWJZ
KQMV
JACK
KJR-FM
KBKS
KMTT

The rest of the morning shows deliver about what their station delivers in key demographics. It is an interesting way to look at which morning shows are really winning, which aren't helping their station and which are just average.

Seems like a reasonable way to judge a morning show, if they beat the crap out of the rest of the station AQH. I like it!!!! Nice to see the automated stations stinking up morning drive. Yep, listeners would rather have someone live in mornings than wall to wall muzakkkk. KRWM may have big ole numbers, but that station is background muzakkkk in mornings and no one is listening to the host or the commercials. It is like Beautiful Music was a decade ago. Lot's of numbers, no one really listening. The Country shows in town do a bit better than the stations as a whole, but not 20% better, probably cause there are two countries beaten the crap out of each other. I can see KZOK, KPLZ, KIRO mornings out performing their station, but KJR-AM? Sports seems to be a weekend and night thang. Mariners got great ole numbers at night and do five times what the mornings on KOMO do. Why is KJR-am different?

It's called Mitch in the Morning. Extremely personality driven; more importantly, a vast majority of the time, it ain't sports he's talking about.
BTW, TakeItFromMe...yep..what you say about morning shows and the importance of their outperforming the rest of the station's day parts is on the money! On the other hand, many a PM Drive show (even a mid day show) has outperformed the morning show and benefit by charging premium prices for the spots in those time slots rather than morning drive. I'll betcha in KJR's heyday in the 60's, Pat O'Day's (afternoons) and Lan Roberts'(mornings) numbers were pretty close. ;)

The guy, McCarthy, is a gentle soul with voice older women love and he is number one. Give the guy some credit. He may underperform the station or get his numbers primarily from soft music, but he is still number one. He does it without bashing women like Mitch in the Morning, Rivers, BJ and T-Man. He does it without wacky morning show bits like Jackie and Bender and Fitz. He shuts up and plays the music, something Ichidbod and kent and alan should do more often in this ladies view. WARM mornings ain't all talk, but it ain't automation either. It just wins.

Let's compare last Friday's 7:00 a.m. hour for how many songs are played:

Ichabod: 3
Ditz: 4
Wow! A whopping one more song per hour on The Woof. Looks like just as much blabber from Eastlake as from Dexter Avenue.

-----------------
Kent & Alan: 8
McCarthy: 7

Oops. Sorry to burst your bubble again with those pesky facts.

The Woof is at Met Park, and Ick got bitch slapped in the last book...

Sorry to bring up more of those pesky facts.

Wow, I got the address wrong of The Woof. Boy, you sure got me there. ::)

I never brought up the ratings issue, it was someone else who brought up music.

When bringing up pesky facts, try staying on topic, mmmkay?

Well, the point of my message was, maybe if Icky played a few more songs and preached less, some of those ratings might come back. I think Mister AQH needs to chill. YaYa.

If you want to position me as "needing to chill," do whatever you want.

The fact is that you don't know what the reason is for Ichabod's ratings.

What started this is my debunking that Ditz plays more music than Ichabod.

Speculate all you want about the ratings, but remember what the point of my post was.

Oh, I know exactly why Icky's ratings are down.

Let's leave it at that.

You have no idea who I am...or what I do.

And that's how we'll leave it, mmmkay?

Ummm okay. One question, though.

Am I supposed to care?

Rob stop playing Possum and focus on your no talk Triple Play - besides isn't your plane leaving for Detroit soon?
