Top performing 25-54 Classic Hits Stations in PPM

Which PPM classic hits stations are consistently top 5 performers in the 25-54 demo?

Cleveland's WMJI has to be the best performer... 2nd in the average of Oct-Nov-Dec 2012.

KRTH, WCBS, WOGL arre not top 5 in that same time frame. Nor are KOOL and KOLA. Chicago and Atlanta are out of the running, as is Magic in Miami and KLUV in Dallas. Allthose are outside the Top 10. So is the Walrus in SD.

WBIG in DC reclassified as classic rock, not oldies, and is averaging 9th. Houston is without an Classic Hits station.

How about Milwaukee's WRIT? They are typically strong overall in 6+, but what about 25-54?
They brand as Oldies, but are practically Classic Hits.

I'd imagine they bill pretty strong, as they also go all-Christmas, allowing for huge ratings gains.

Interesting that WMJI is that good, a look at their playlist shows mostly late 60's-70's, with little 80's. That would seem to defy the industry trend, while still performing strong 25-54.

San Antonio's KONO averaged 4th in 25-54 in Fall (3 PPM books).

WRIT, mentioned earlier, is just outside the Top 5 in its market in 25-54.

Thanks. Would you happen to know how they bill as well?

This may be a function of the odd demos of Cleveland, where there was a lot of outbound flight in the 70's and 80's. WMJI is 2nd 25-54 in the fall, but 8th in 18-49... meaning that a huge piece of of the 25-54 is all between 50 and 54. It is a runaway #1 in 35-64, for example.

10th, with about a third the billing of leading WTMJ.

Thanks for the info. You always have great info and insight to share here. I asked the question because it didn't seem there were very many top 5 performers 25-54, which may be a part of my last post on this forum: The fact that the format seems to still be several years too old musically. A 45-year old today was 18 in 1986. It seems that maybe the Adult Hits format is making a better musical play toward the demo, and is somewhat blocking classic hits from moving deeper into the 80s.

Interesting thing about WMJI is you can listen to a set of music on that station and hear a set like no other Classic Hits. They seem to dig a little deeper (and earlier). In the last hour I've heard:

4 Seasons - Sherry (1962??)
Meat Loaf - Two out of Three Ain't Bad
Gordon Lightfoot - Carefree Highway

Looking back at some logs from last week they dig a little deeper on core artists too like Simon & Garfunkel "Homeward Bound.

Also interesting to note that they seem to have a generally mellow flow to them. Very mid to mid-down tempo which probably helps with at work listening as they take a more AC approach. That's opposite of many Classic Hits stations that go for tempo. Most stations go for tempo in PPM it seems.

How does KKLZ/Vegas or KOSF/San Francisco do?

That sounds more like Classic Hits "Lite". I wish ours was more mellow. Just when I get comfortable, they bring out the hair bands, which I sort of liked at the time but since it wasn't my generation, didn't stay with me. From what I've heard, others are even more in that direction, some not even focusing on hits!
