Top Reasons To Hate Toucher and Rich

Well, I can't think of any reason to hate them. They have the best show in Boston hands down. I just went with the whole hate thing because people seem to like negative posts. Their show gets better and better every day. Even when Fred loses his mind and goes off about CBS it's great. When will WBCN let them go to an all talk show? The only complaint I have about their show is the music.

Mule

The music, which they have no control over. And often actually make fun of on the air.

I agree the WBCN playlist is just down right bad. As soon as "The Dropkick Murphy" (thanks Mayor) start up with Shipping up to Boston, the iPod comes on for 3 minutes. Same can be said for the Weezer song, and the other crap that CBS has WBCN playing. If I wanted to hear music I'd put the iPod on. Aadam 12 does a great job with the music during the mid-day. Let Toucher and Rich go all talk, like O/A.

The 'BCN playlist suddenly includes stuff like "Beverly Hills" and music that seemingly crossed over from CHR and landed in the recurrent bin..I don't get it..

Speaker hit it on the head. Also, where was BCN on Finger Eleven's "Paralyzed?" It was already a mainstream Mix 98.5/Kiss 108 hit months ago. Besides being stuck in the 90s, BCN seems to wait on new music unless it's a new song from the Foo or Weezer.

By the way, I wholeheartedly agree that Toucher and Rich get how to do great radio. It's gotta be about content to build and keep an audience. Plus, their listeners are welcomed into the show even if it's just a mention of someone's feedback on email or an IM. I appreciate when they get a little "inside radio" to both criticize and point out the realities of where radio is and where it's going.

Just the music, but like someone else said they have no control over it. They're pretty funny dudes and should of been on Mornings by now. It really makes O&A's humor seem very dated and the numbers don't justify having them syndicate the show from NY.

I caught their show Friday afternoon for the first time in a while, and found myself laughing out loud at various points.

T and R are great for WBCN. I'd also like to hear them go all-talk. Great stuff.

Having caught the show on several occasions, I agree Toucher and Rich are very funny but in terms of making Opie and Anthony sound dated, I don't buy it. I just think it's the nature of the business to evolve. Howard Stern to O&A to Toucher and Rich to, say, this new Loren and Wally Show.

I was a huge Opie and Anthony fan... I still do listen to them every day, but I'm not as into them as I was. The only reason I keep XM now is for Ron and Fez. They seemed to do better in afternoon drive. The callers were better, and they just seemed to have more fun. I like T/R in the PM Drive, and Fred is cranky enough in the afternoon. I wouldnt want to hear him in the mornings when he's just waking up.

I think there are still tickets for the local Gov't Mule shows this coming thurs-sat. They are worth checking out!

O&A could be an "afternoon show," if they would just wake up at midnight and start drinking at 5AM. Sometimes, you just gotta do things for the job, and that's what they need.

im the same way....O&A, RnF, then TnR.... I wouldnt mind the music, if it wasnt the same friggin' songs over and over, I really like when its their b-days and they play a songof their choice an hour, even though they got crap for doing that.

Rumor has it, that they are going to WYSP in philidelphia for mornings sometime in September.
Interesting. YSP is part of CBS radio. BCN is going to lose them rather than slot them where a syndicated show you can hear on XM is currently?

Is YSP in as bad of shape as O/A say it is, or is that just sour grapes? I know when I was down in Philly last year I tried to get the station in, in downtown Philly and it was getting stepped on and had lots of static. Almost AAF like.

Signal-wise I don't think there are any problems, but management of the station has been a mess. They were "Free FM", then dropped the name but stayed talk, then went back to rock with O&A mornings and a T&R-like show in afternoons, then I believe a new PD came in and dropped O&A, moving the T&R-like show to mornings. After a questionable parody song, both the T&R-like show and the PD were canned a few months ago.

That makes absolutely no sense to move T&R to Philadelphia when the show is making inroads in Boston. I'm not even sure syndicating the show to WYSP (and potentially sister WZGC/Atlanta) would be a good idea, given the emphasis on Boston sports teams and local life that would have to be dropped. And it's already been established that T&R in mornings probably wouldn't be a great use of the talent either, as many of their college-age listeners get up 10 minutes before class and aren't listening to morning radio.

I think that was Kid Chris that you're talking about. I dissagree with you on T/R not being able to do a syndicated show. With the exception of the Bruins, I don't think any of the guys really care about the teams. They are just playing to their fans. I think the Chili Guy would do well anywhere. The Drunken Red Sox recaps would do great in any city because here in Boston we just laugh at our own, and down in Philly they can point and laugh at us. I'm sure they could get creative and have a local guy down there get a mic out to do a Drunken Eagles recap. As far as Atlanta goes, I know they came from down there but I could have sworn I heard Fred saying he thinks their show is a better fit in a northeast market...you know, cuz we're smartah than those hicks.
