Top Ten Angry On-Camera Meltdowns (video)

Gawker.com has the top 10 angry on-camera meltdowns as a video montage. The last one, just happened recently at WNBC.

http://gawker.com/390156/ten-angry-on+camera-meltdowns

I use to work for a local small market station in PA and, I know at least one anchor and one reporter who's video should be on there. They had a very short fuse, and would blow up at the littlest thing, to this day, I still laugh at them. Why? Because they don't really know how stupid they really looked.

Last night, Keith Olbermann showed the Bill O'Reilly "Inside Edition" meltdown on MSNBC. Keith was obvioulsly trying to contain himself.

As for WNBC...I hope they aren't FCC fearing folk. It sounds like we are now to the point where the local news will need a 7 second delay.

From the world of sports...

"The Bears are who we THOUGHT they were!!!!!!!....CROWN their a**!" - Dennis Green, Head Coach, Arizona Cardinals
"PLAYOFFS?!?!?!?!?!?" Don't talk to me about playoffs!" - Jim Mora, HC, New Orleans Saints
"They oughtta go get a f****** job...and PRINT IT!" - Lee Elia, Manager, Chicago Cubs

The Jim Mora comment was actually when he was coaching the Indianapolis Colts vs the 49ers. It was his last year as Colts coach.

Watching that clip of meltdowns reminds me of an incident that took place one night at 3am on WFQX-FM in Winchester, Virginia back in 1994 when the station was known as "Froggy 99".

The disc jockey was named "Swamp Thing". That night some girl calls in upset that the previous jock "Tad" (?) didn't play her request. Rather than just play the song to make her happy, Swamp Thing went on the air for a good 15 minutes bashing that jock saying stuff like "...well babe...he didn't play your request because he doesn't like girls..he is a f*cking ****ot !! He has HIV !!!! Damn that son of a B*tch...people...I hate q-eers....they rape children just like TAD...TAD loves to rape little boys and give them HIV..gay ya'know...." 15 whole minutes of this garbage !!

Swamp Thing even gave out over the air that jock's home phone number and address asking listeners to call him up and stuff.

A few years back when the Winchester, VA market had its own media website for a time they featured an aircheck of this incident. I remember reading a comment on the site from someone who worked at WFQX at the time of this and he/she was saying that WFQX heard stories from listeners that late at night when he thought noone was listening he was actually using the airwaves to cuss and slam the other jocks. The night in question, the PD or GM thanks to a VCR rolled taped. And yes he was fired.

Add to that pretty much anything current White Sox manager Ozzie Guillen says.

I'm not sure they'll have a problem with the FCC. From what I understand, Simmons dropped the f-bomb shortly after 10 PM, when the FCC's decency standards are relaxed.

Not only should of he been fired, but also, arrested...now adays, allegations like that, would get someone killed.

I know I would of had a nice lawsuit against him.

...of course, this isn't an all-time listing, since it doesn't have Frank Reynolds barking for his ABC News colleagues to nail down the story first, or Jessica Savitch's last night at KYW-TV, or Dale Hansen sniping at John McCaa at WFAA-TV...

Watched the whole thing myself last night...it was just pathetic. If it had been a prompter malfunction I could've sympathized with him, but this was something on the prompter that he didn't understand. He could've calmly asked for a clarification but instead he decided to have himself a little tempter tantrum.

To paraphrase his own words, "This ******* GUY SUCKS!"

I've always thought 'decency' referred to concepts, and any of the '7 dirty' (well, 6 or 5 depending on where you're sitting, -p and -t in some cases) were verboten on the public airwaves 24-7. I think there exceptions for vocative ("Oh F***!) or spontaneous outburst. Unless you're Bono, I guess. Technical error would be part of this plea, I'm sure, if anything comes of it.

It also applies to "profane" speech, according to this guide from the FCC. WNBC should be OK here.

I've seen far worse than anything O'Reilly or Simmons did. Occasionally, stuff happens that doesn't get on the air or tape that triggers these outbursts. Not to defend them, but it might give a little context to the incidents.

Mike Gundy goes straight to the top of the list.

"COME AFTER ME!.............I'M A MAN!..........I'M 40!!!!!!"
