Top Tracks of 2006?

Let's try to infuse a little bit of life into an otherwise dull board...

What were your top tracks of 2006 for Hot AC? Either personal favorites, or songs that took off for your station.

Here's stuff for my station in no particular order:

1-- The Fray- Over My Head (Cable Car)- I added this track in August 2005, and it didn't leave heavy rotation for over a year. I still love this song, and am glad my listeners never got tired of it. I'm also VERY glad it was the #1 song for 2006 at the format.

2---Hellogoodbye- Here (In Your Arms)- I added this one on a whim... and it absolutely took off. I can understand some Hot AC's being a little apprehensive on touching this track... but it's pure catchy pop that both moms and kids can listen to. This song will go strong into 2007.

3--Blue October- Hate Me- Ever have a great song come along, but don't expect it to do good? I expected great things from Blue October and their last album (their song Calling You... should have been a hit).. but it got missed. So when Hate Me came out... I loved it, great song... but didn't expect much chart-wise from it. Instead, my listeners jammed the phones for it... and it was one of the biggest records of 2006 for my station. Into the Ocean is doing great right now too.

4--Jack's Mannequin- Dark Blue I like taking chances with my playlist. This song I threw in just to see the response. It's been a slow build... but now I'm getting a ton of calls asking "Who was that last band? I really liked it!" Again, another great song that all ages will love.

5--Better Than Ezra- Juicy OK. I am a bit biased, since Better Than Ezra is my favorite band...but this song exploded after a handful of plays. There was a small group who absolutely hated it, and were vocal about it... but overall... it was a fun song that sounded like nothing they had done before, and I was a little disappointed that it only went to 20 on the charts.

6--Hinder- Lips of an Angel I'm REALLY tired of this song right now... but this one probably had the biggest instant response. After one play, I had callers begging to hear it again. Welcome directly to A. Has been sitting in A ever since.

Just a few from off the top of my head. I'll probably think of more later.

What were your top songs of 2006?

I got the MD job at a station in Oxford, Alabama this year and here's what I've found to be the most popular:

1. Hinder- Lips Of An Angel- Lots of requests for this one.

2. Panic! At the Disco- I Write Sins Not Tragedies- Surprisingly popular with a lot of people. I'd have to say it was more popular with the younger end of the demo.

3. Rob Thomas- Streetcorner Symphony- This is a more recent one, but people really seem to dig this song. A lot more uptempo than "Ever The Same" was earlier this year.

4. Daniel Powter- Bad Day- Has to be the top Hot AC song of the year, if not one of the top 2 or 3. People would call to request it, then talk to our jocks about the bad day they were having. Haha.

5. OK Go- Here It Goes Again- The guys from the "treadmill" video have been a smash so far! We added it pretty early, but it caught on after a few weeks.

IMO, 2006 was a great year for Hot AC...at least here in Alabama. Just when I thought the format was dying, here we come again with our own chart-toppers.
