someone said something referring to 93x on the "what the snap" board... I want to ask you... have any of you actually listened to 93x the way you listen to other stations? I never see posts about the station. I have to say I am a fan simply because I am younger then some of you, so it suits my age. However, the people working at that station have an attitude that sets them apart from all the other stations, except hip hop... which goes without saying... I'm just wondering if any of you actually listen and care about the younger generation of radio warriors. If you think about it, they will soon be as tainted and fed up with radio as we all are. Just a thought.

oh yes I said "these people".....as in these bored people. The station you speak of has not had a lot of jobs open and has not fired alot of people so the amount of bitterness towards said station is low.

but to answer your question
alternative music is old...its due a comeback.
the jocks there are lets say good in a format that pays low in almost all markets
but from what I hear the peeps there are having fun and they should be on a cool station (with the young folks) that gives them alot of freedom on air.

I believe it is me you are referring to and for some reason didn't catch my humor at trying to steer our obsession away from Brad or SNAP. Notice I also tossed in 790 and 680. Sometimes this board needs to laugh a little.

Yes, I listen to 93X and know the people. It is my job to. Syd is a pro. I think it was a mistake to fire Twitch last fall. Their tilting in musical direction is interesting. Is it a cure-all to an underperforming station that has signal limitations? No, but it is nice to hear Metallica (and others) along with current music.

I always felt the station was strongest back when it was "solid rock" with Killabrew and Ditch. Ah, but the times change in corporate radio, just like they will change again.

In all honesty, the main place 93X lacks is in their morning show. Rover ain't the answer.

I so agree about the morning show... I do listen to 93X fairly often outside of morning drive... I am however not sure about the format though I do like nearly all of the non alt rocks tracks they throw in. Alt Rock has been kind of dormant for a while and top 40 is getting very boring. I think someday the format will rejuvinate itself and shine once more.

Its an attitude that represents the young generation of "myspacers" and "mtv'ers" I totally do not dislike their sound, and picked up on it because noone ever mentions them on this site, which i think is a good thing for them because there isnt a distaste for them. I do like their image because they are pushy, VERY humorous and even make fun of the artists they play and frequently make fun of the fact that certain artists are overplayed. There is nothing better in radio then to hear a jock call out when an artist is severly overplayed! I hope I have elaborated enough Nashville friend.

I personally am a fan of 93X. Like everyone else, I listen outside AM Drive. I tend to stick with RSK for mornings, and occasionally flip to Q107 (whose morning show has continued to improve over the couple of years they have been on). I think if 93X had a decent local AM show, or anything other than Rover, it'd be much better. I did love the station back in the Ditch & Killabrew days, but the recent changes have been good too. Where else can you hear the Beastie Boys followed by old school Metallica and Dynamite Hack. Their promotions are clever, and the DJs do a great job giving the station the "attitude" you'd expect from an alternative/rock station. It's really a shame that they're on such a weak signal and don't have a strong AM drive.

As far as 93X goes, I like 'em and hope they stay around.

What was left of the station died when Stern went to Sirius. And to make a correction, Ditch and Killabrew didn't work at the station in the "Solid Rock" days. It was "92.9 WMFS Rocks Memphis" by the time they got there. Caesar, Clapper, Paul Marshall, Addison, Paco, Scott Osbourne, BK, Syd, and Jose were among the Solid Rockers.

Syd is a great gal, but totally doesn't fit that format anymore. She belongs on WEGR. Let's just say she sounds too "mature" for MFS.

Firing Twitch was the best thing that happened to that station post Stern. That dude would have been awesome in 1998, when "Deez nuts" jokes were mildly amusing. The whole "I'm hungover" bit is funny...once, but every damn day?

Crate is a solid jock, really takes pride in the station. Beck is good too. Outside of those two, it's amateur hour.

It's operating as a shell. The passion should be through the roof, but unfortunately, nobody cares.

Last X station I listened to was 96X when I worked there. Yes it was on life support at the time, but to this day it was still one of the more 'fun' stations I ever worked for in my 20 some odd years in the biz.

CBS is known for running alternative stations into the ground, while Entercom is known for fixing them. I wonder if they will make any sweeping changes? 93X doesn't sound like any of their other alternative stations. Too bad they didn't move it to 94.1 so people could actually hear it.

As someone who now listens to Sid on a regular basis lately, and me being 40, I really take offensive to saying she sounds to OLD for that station! I guess I'm TOO OLD to be listening too...but I am! I have no idea how old she is but damn! That's rude!

I am really fond of this station. I love Sid and Crate but can't stand Rover in the AM. I have tried to give that show a chance. 93X and Alt Nation 21 (Sirius) are the only two radio stations I listen to now. I LOVE the fact that it (93X) sounds different than anything on the radio here. THANK GOD!!

R & K are boring and make me feel old! I listen to Sirius in the AM now because there is nothing on in Memphis AM now that is worth my time. :-\ I don't listen to Stern either!

Dude, you know how it works. You can't consider the occasional hiccup in listener age when determining demographic. Yes, you're too old for the format because it's formatted for a younger audience. If you take offense to that, *something derogatory that the admin would delete if it was written but not so derogatory that you couldn't see the bit of sarcasm that plays in the reference*.

Correction again - Locals only began during the Solid Rock days after Clapper moved to nights and BK to afternoons. The moniker was changed before the old regime left so Ditch and Killabrew where there post Solid Rock. Once they changed it from Solid Rock and started playing REM and Dave Matthews...The old crew began their departure.

Jose LIVES though - Check him out on Sirius - Hard Attack - He even still does his Beyond The Pit show.

Nothing will ever beat The Heavy Lunch - That was all Jim Foxx and that's when the station was the best

I listened to 93x back when the station was Solid Rock. Those were fun times! Paul Marshall was a great deejay and they played the type of rock I liked. However, when they went more modern I stopped listening and pretty much forget they are even on the air. I can't believe how weak their signal is. They will never be a force until they can hit some of the outlining areas.

I have noticed a few changes since this tread was started...

1. the processing: I was hearing either audio overshooting the STL or the processing was being badly over driven... recently I have noticed that something has changed and this is no longer happening... maybe a simple adjustment or a limiter is now in the chain somewhere to protect which ever device this was occurring at. This was happening on more than one shift and really sounded horrible.

2. The format is finally sounding more consistent as of late. The station for years couldn't decide what type of rock station it was going to be. I love GnR and other stuff they play that didn't fit.... but I would never consider as belonging on a Modern Rock or Alternative Rock. I have never understood Active Rock either (which is why I never felt right about the play list)

3. Memphis in May - They have taken the station to the river and used the opportunity to be seen. Running air shifts live from Tom Lee has sounded great.
