"Topless Radio" folks

Hi, I'm a professor in the Radio-TV-Film Dept. at Northwestern University, and I'm working on a project about the "topless radio" phenomenon of the early 1970s. I am desperately searching for audio tapes of full broadcasts of Bill Ballance's "Feminine Forum" from KGBS in LA, or "Femme Forum" from WGLD in Oak Park, IL, or some other talk show using that format from that time (early 1970s).

Does anyone know where I might look, or who I might contact to try and find recordings of those shows?

Also, does anyone know people who were working in this format at the time that might be willing to talk to me?

I have found two LPs of Balance’s shows, but they are brief excerpts of the shows, not the full broadcasts.

Thanks for your time and help,

Jake Smith

Jake:
I have never run across an unscoped aircheck of Feminine Forum. Good luck. The only surviving jock from those days at KGBS is Dave Hull, recently retired in Palm Springs. If you can get in touch with him, he might be able to give you some insight.

Also: Feminine Forum worked because Bill Ballance could say things that sound dirty, but actually weren't "I'm sitting here stroking my stallion ganglia"...it's an arm muscle. That stuff went back to Bill's DJ patter in the 1950's ("I have it on good authority that Lana Turner is a THESPIAN!"). What caused the FCC to get involved and crack down was that the imitators didn't have Bill's wit or vocabulary and actually did talk dirty.

Try Lance Ballance, Bill's son, who is still in radio, I believe in Arizona although he may have made his way back to Los Angeles by now. You can google him and find his blog and website. I believe he's a programmer who specializes in AC and country music formats.

Bob: I noted in another thread about this that Lance is not Bill's son. He makes that clear in his blog. He's currently in Florida.
