Flipped around last night...ZZK seemed to be the only ones doing any severe weather coverage. Why does Birmingham have news stations?

it was the same way here in huntsville, a tornado warning was issued for madison county.....
106.1 WTAK-kept on airing nascar
95.1 WRTT-kept on airing football
99.1 WAHR-made some effort to cover it but not much
102.1 WDRM-was like, there's a tornado warning, here's keith urban!
104.3 WZYP-not much from them
93.3 WHRP-same
92.5/94.1 WWXQ/WXQW- did nothing
96.9 WRSA- the only ones that did a satisfactory job, they actually STOPPED playing music until it was over with
what ever happened to the days when stations would break in the instant a warning was issued? all the clear channel stations (WDRM, WTAK, WWXQ/WXQW, WBHP/WHOS) would air audio from WAFF 48 while the others did their own thing (BUT STILL MADE AN EFFORT)
I really only heard the NOAA thing (with the squealing noise before and after, forgot what it's called) on WDRM, WZYP, and WHRP, others might have had it but i didn't catch it in time
overall a really pitiful job from all but WRSA<P ID="signature">______________

I think its pretty much a given now that television covers severe weather. If you only have a radio around, its been preached for years that you get a weather band radio. Radio is trying to survive, so weather coverage is being pushed off of music stations. Most stations only have full coverage if it is affecting their immediate county, anyway. As for Birmingham, Jefferson County never went under a warning at any time yesterday. When this is the case, stations usually just go with Weather Bulletins after commercial/music breaks.

By the time I listen to radio at around 9PM Sunday night, I didn't hear any tornado coverage. I was trying to listen to 106.1 WTAK for the Rock Talk show and something must have screw up becuase there was this long but static-like silent for about ten minutes until Rock Talk was back on, but only briefly. Then it went off again, and WTAK instead put "Flashback" on. After that I was mad, so I listen to a replay of Coast to Coast AM with Art Bell. I was wondering if the storms damage the power lines that carry Rock Talk or something or someone at the station just screw up.

`that sounds like TAK alright, i have never heard so many screw ups on one station before lol, they have gotten feeds mixed up before, one time when rockline was supposed to be on, tey had the johnboy and billy feed on just rebroadcasting WRFX from Charolette (the JB&B flagship station) they get the traffic reports mixed up ALL the time, i've heard them say Kool 92/94 instead of 106-1 TAK, even "i'm brian cordell in the WBRC traffic center" TAK all in itself is a joke, hence why i got into DXing, so i just listen to 105.9 out of Nashville full time<P ID="signature">______________
