Couple observations which may be of interest...

One, it took a couple of books, but it looks like CBC Radio One (99.1) has now recovered fully from the effects of the summer/fall lockout. It has gotten back substantially all of its pre-locout numbers and is once again a major factor in the market, nearly matching CFRB and beating CFTR in the news/talk competition (although both of those stations also did well).

Two, it appears CHFI's mix of soft rock and oldies is taking the quarter-hour crown in a fairly tight race with CHUM-FM, and opening up a little more space in front of CJEZ, but they're doing it on a basis of high Time Spent Listening...their cume is almost in a dead heat.

Three, if cume is important to a station, then CFTR has more of it than anyone, although the nature of the format means TSL will be short and therefore AQH share will be a lot lower than some stations with similar or even smaller cumes.
Four, Jack had another down book in cume, although AQH share was pretty steady.

Usually I would think that CIDC's signal coverage and Dance-leaning direction would keep them from going any higher in the Toronto book, but now that they're in the top 10 with a growing audience base it looks like they have become a serious player in the market, judging by Z103.5 picking up listeners from (Adult Top 40)CHUM-FM and (Rhythmic Top 40)CFXJ. Lets hope the momentum keeps going for them.

I think at some point, the big boys will take notice and start raining on their parade..only a matter of time

(especially with renewed rumours of a format change at jack92.5 toronto --rogers.. with continued erossion of share points and coverage numbers .. a change is likely already being planned)

Not intending to attack your (very valid) point here, but:

1) Who would want to work for a station that cleans house almost as often, if not as much as Buffalo's Jack FM.

2) Rogers ran the old 680 CFTR when it was hit music, and later the top 40 kiss 92. They screwed up by going after the flow 93.5 crowd, on my opinion, and failed to go back to the kiss 92 they were. (after learning flow crowd wasn't working they became Jack)

I have no faith in the idea that they will go back to top 40, as they are focused more today on going after an "Older" crowd.
They WANT to keep the teens glued to their rogers cell music and rogers yahoo internet music services, not the radio.

1) who would want to work for a (shitty) company that cleans house so often... Well ...Someone who's in need of work and has the experience .. that's who.. or some new sounds for the youth audience to 'latch on to ' like how Axel got his start (and Josie ..former cidc ..now with chr ottawa)

2) no matter who it is .. if they see an opportunity (or mistake, finally realized) .. they will do what's necassary to bring the numbers back to their failing station ..and it just so happens that Rogers is the owner of the still 'lost ' 92.5fm

--although i'm surprised Corus has stuck with Country 95.3 for this long considering the low numbers and also considering that the toronto market is important for them .. they have real low numbers here, much lower than when it was Energy 108 in the mid 90's .. and yet they still promote toronto events and hold a canada day concert at the lakeshore.. for how much longer...
