Touch FM 106.1 Roxbury

I read the first 3 pages and got bored... Ive listened to Touch FM a bit, and it is a heck of alot better than the Urban ACs that radio One puts out.... I run a Comunity station in my small town on 93.7 since 1999 called Mystery FM.... the purpose of the station Who's format is NONStop Rhythm and Dance serves our town because there is absolutely no station in my area that plays hip Hop,, net along that plays dance music, so the station has a strong following with 15 to 40 yr olds, and since we are in a valley, we are shielded out from the big city stations,, but we air local Weather,,, we have EAS and Amber Alert, and air school closings and all that... we have a local station, but it is now ran almost completely off the bird,,, Mystery FM was able to give early warnings for our Tornado in 2002,, may have saved some lives,, yet our local station was automated and jockless, so good luck on getting info there... Not every small town community station has to be Oldies, Standards, Country, or Religious,,, you can play Hip Hop and Dance music, Urban,,, Rock,,,, Top 40 ... and still be community involved... We actually also got an STA, and hopefully by summer of 2010 we can get a full LPFM license,,, Also,,,, on sundays, we air Church services in the morning and play a mix of CHR Christian and Black Gospel in the evening, and on sunday nights we have 100 percent Nostalgia,, the rest of the week its all dance and Hip Hop,,, similar to the former 95.3 party in Orlando...

I guess the only conceivable LPFM frequency would be 101.3, since the WFNX repeater was once allowed on it, but that was WFNX agreeing to shortspace with themselves.

Actually, that's a good point. When I made that comment about an LP10's stick fitting only in a small area of Dedham, I forgot the frequency. It might've been on or near 101.3 or 97.7...both of which would've become unavailable in the Dedham area thanks to minimum distance specifications and the moves of WKAF and WFNX to new transmitter sites. Maybe there's no room at all anywhere inside Rt.128 for an LP10. :'(

This is one STA that I'd like to see. Here on Radio Info this man claims to be operating a 500 watt pirate station
in Martinsville, Indiana.

Martinsville in in the Indianapolis Market. This guy is jamming WRWM, costing them Arbitron points and harming
their business.

This man in another post claimed to have been recently arrested for drunk driving with marijuana in his blood.
Driving high. Oh! And he claimed here on Radio Info that he had been forced to toke up by thugs to prove he
was not an snitch.

So if "Remember Touch FM" is your battle cry. " Remember this Pirate" will be mine. We in broadcasting need
the FCC.

A precedent case has been established when the FCC gave a pirate in Goldfield NV an STA (Special
Temporary Authority) to stay on the air.

One situation is not a precedent...it's a special case.

You claimed the FCC has a history of giving licenses to pirate operators.

Again, we are waiting for the long list.

And...the long list of community groups that you have procured licenses for.

Congress is in the process of repealing the bill that prohibited
former pirates from owning LPFMs.

Oh, really? What is the bill number?

You don't have to answer to anyone, but when you make wild unsubstantiated claims with no basis in fact, don't be surprised when someone calls you on them.

....but one morning you wake up, and the pirate station has a license.

Sorry to break this to you.....ain't gonna happen.

You mean an illegal station?

I love how these law breakers are so busy patting themselves on the back that they can't see that this is all ego-driven.

Yeah, I'm sure the FCC would agree that this fellow is a prime candidate to hold a LPFM license and "serve the community".

There already is a pirate station on 101.3 in Boston -- Big City 101.3. It interferes with B101.5 in Providence and WGIR 101.1 in Manchester. I would never step foot in the neighborhood where 101.3 would interfere with 101.7 'FNX. I don't know how an LPFM could fit on 101.3 in Boston considering this existing pirate causes interference.

I was not referring to myself as to whether I needed to answer to anyone. Did you ever get around to looking up The Flying Dutchman, whose name is not Quinn? It was The Flying Dutchman to whom I was referring. There seem to be a number of very angry people on these boards. It is indeed unfortunate.

There is an old folksong that goes, “I am a silkie on the sea”. So, I suspect Silkie is referring to the ghost ship The Flying Dutchman doomed to sail forever.. Or perhaps to Captain Vanderdecken of the ghost ship. This was my dj name on a pirate station 30 years ago.

I will name another pirate who went legit. Alan Weiner. He’s the guy who had the pirate radio ship MV Sarah off the coast of New York City. He was broadcasting with so much power that I could listen to his station 800 miles away. He was popped by the FCC more times than I can count on one hand. Today he owns high powered international station WBCQ. There are many others. But I’m not trying to write a Book.

Yes, there is a great deal of anger concerning the voice of black Boston, Touch FM. I did not see this hostility when I assisted other groups in obtaining licenses. One group, Indiana University’s WIUX-LP was being forced off their frequency by full power station upgrades. I assisted in filing a petition for reconsideration that accomplished 2 things. WIUX was the first low power FM to be financially reimbursed for displacement. Also after the WIUX case the FCC declared that no full power station will take a low power station off the air.

Yes, I have helped many groups in obtaining licenses with the FCC. But again, I don’t want to blow My own horn or write a book. But I am not afraid to provide references. Besides it’s all over the internet.

The frequency 106.1 is very similar to channels being used for displaced LPFMs around the country.
There are 2 full power Class Bs. One on the 2nd adjacent channel. The other on the 3rd. Low power stations do not interfere with full power stations in circumstances such as this and that is why low power stations are now on the 2nd adjacent channel in many cities. The stations on 106.3 do not have 1mV/m in Boston and are not protected. The Cape Cod station has a new CP and their interfering contour has moved out of Boston. I don’t believe Touch FM causes interference.

In our country civil disobedience is one method to change an injustice. It is as American as The Boston Tea Party.

Minorities and blacks being shut out of radio broadcast station ownership is an injustice that is wrong. This should not be compared to owning a McDonalds Franchise.

Touch FM the voice of black Boston deserves an STA from the FCC.

There's a 95.3 in Boston, 106.1 is 10.8 mHz away. There's a minimum spacing requirement for the IF frequency. Go near the Touch 106.1 transmitter, tune to 87.7 on a portable radio (should be a blank frequency) and you will hear a mix of Touch 106.1 and WHRB.

For a low power station to be on 106.1, they need to be 5 km from WHRB on 95.3 to have 10 watts at 100 feet. They need
to be 6 km away for 100 watts at 100 feet.

The inner circle on this map is 5 km from WHRB. The outer circle is 6 km. As you can see Touch FM is just a few city blocks
from the outer circle. Therefore this frequency is workable right where they are at.

Okay, the grammar seems to indicate that it ain't the dutch guy I was thinking of. LOL
