Toucher and Rich are #1

From Fred Toucher:

Thanks to the dedication of the TARDS the Toucher and Rich show is the number 1 show in Boston with men 18-44. That means that we all get a bonus for the first time. We owe you a fruitcup!

Go 'BCN!

Can anyone verify this?

T&R have not seemed to get traction in Boston.

I find it hard to believe they are #1 in that demo.

(But what is it they say? Anyone can find a particular demo that shows them doing well?)

Nice try, but they're wrong. WBCN is fourth in that time slot, behind WJMN, WEEI and Kiss.

Perhaps they are referring to diaries from Boston zip codes only?

With programs like maximizer you can make yourself #1 somehow.

I was once number one 12-plus... in a town that sent back two diaries.

No ratings bonus was forthcoming. Not even a dollar draft.

Check again "dumber than a box of hair".

Toucher and Rich ARE MOST CERTAINLY #1 Men 18-44. No zip codes, no corners cut...straight up.
WJMN is a half point behind in 2nd, and WEEI is over a point and a half behind in third.

These are the numbers, and as far as I can see, T&R aren't 4th in ANY demo, as you quoted.

It's probably based on the very scientific poll "Hey Brandon from Wakefield, are we number one?" and "And Bob from Quincy, are we number one?"

Yes, "weee". It actually was a scientific poll that proclaimed them #1. It's called Arbitron.

Whether or not you like T&R they are building up their audience numbers slowly but surely...favorite personalities in the Imporper Bostonian, A news article on them from a local newspaper, and now #1 in their time slot...not bad for a bunch of guys who came here only a year and a half ago....I bet you could walk in to a local college party and just screamed "couple beers no beers" at least half of the crowd would be able to finish the line. The show almost has a Big Matress feel to it for a new generation.

What's the rest?

"couple beers, no beers........Chili"

Only a matter of time, tho, until some of those bits get the attention of the nazi FCC. Not that they're totally out of line, but they do press the edge... someone's gonna have to take the 300K+ all the way to the Supreme Court... T+R?

I'm not gonna lie, they've rejuvinated (spelling?) afternoons on 'BCN. Brings you back to old school BCN with a modern day feel and outlook.

I think this victory is decisive and they are scoring big with the younger crowd and in some respects appealing to 30 somethings too.

Funny bits. Who in Boston can't relate to leaving the Sox game and being unsure of how to get to Kenmore Station after tossing back a couple (expensive) beers @ Fenway???

Um....Anyone who was born here?

When out-of-towners point out stuff that's obvious to Bostonians (crap driving, no parking, accents) it just points out how "not from here" they are.

T&R might be really talented. I didn't listen enough when I was home to be able to critique. And who gives a flying glass pane from the Hancock what I think anyway? The point is...there's no frame of reference. They don't know where Columbia Point, or even Columbia Station are. Why people who shopped at Tello's were ridiculed. They can't tell you why Narcissus was a dump. They never had Nemo's, Buzzy's, or hit Kelly's after last call at the Atlantic Lounge. Ask them what "cold tea" is. Where the Combat Zone is? They never felt the crush of losing to the Yankees after having a 15 game lead...although that might change soon...They can't be pissed about the seats on the wall, or the Yuppification of Southie. They don't know who Whitey, or Dapper is, or Al Kaprelian, Rosie Ruiz...Savin Hill By The Tracks, Mr. Butch. 'til tuesday winning the rumble, only to have Gang Green win it with their version of Voices Carry the next year.

I think I've made my point. A piped in morning show from NY, an afternoon team not from here, a night guy who made a point of being an outsider for a long time. At least 12 makes it a point to reference his home town and various other localities that endear him to people who're from there.

Part of the reason people rip on WBCN is they don't feel connected to them...Outside of the Pats. You can't just say you're the Rock of Boston.

...just my rambling opinion. For what it's worth.

And they came from Atlanta.Have you ever read that board? It's great entertainment. Those barefoot yahoos snap into a Civil War reenactment mode anytime an out of towner appears on Atlanta radio.I once saw a post where someone whined that he felt the city was under attack by outsiders because a format changed. They came from a market that's radio's answer to Designing Women.

They're # 1...so you're wrong.
Stern wasn't from Boston either. Look how bad he did.

T&R do know who Al Kaprelian is. They spent a couple of shows talking about him and poking a little fun. Al was even on their show last summer I believe so they try to get know as much as they can about the Boston area in the current times. Granted they can't back in their time machine and go to all the old local dives, Getting to where they are now is an accomplishment.

Wow - all that stuff you mentioned sounds like it would make for funny, entertaining and compelling radio. How'd that work out for you?

Worked out great! Leaving Boston (again) was the best thing ever to happen to me personally. I'm working and programming at the highest rated Rock station in America. And those bonus checks cash better in KC than Brookline. Trust me. I can't thank Entercom enough for giving me so many great opportunities over the past 7 years.

Thanks For Asking...But let's try to stick to the topic at hand rather than taking pointed shots at someone.

You miss my point. The original assertion was about how "anyone" would relate to getting lost looking for the T station on a drunk in Kenmore Square. And I retort as someone who was born there with the fact that NOBODY I've ever met has ever been lost in Kenmore Square. Ever. Not once. Bostonians learn the T and how it works by the time we're 12. Pointing out things that are obvious to Bostonians identifies you as an outsider. Always has. Always will.

I'm happy for T&R. They scored well in one demo in one book. I've been there. It's an awesome feeling. They should enjoy that feeling and get back to work. The Fall book's coming.

It's not a personal attack on them. We're being told "live, local content." T&R have 2 of those covered apparently. But, they'd be well-served to tap B-Real for their local flavor. The kid's smart, and knows his stuff.
