Toucher and Rich to Chicago?

ok so this is merely conjecture on my part but it makes too much sense...which is why it probably won't happen but...

The afternoon show (sherman and tingle) at Q101 have been moved from afternoons to mornings to replace the old morning show...T & R have said in the past they no longer want to do mornings unless they get a good amount of money.

Fred has said on air how badly the show is mishandled here in Boston, and during one of those rants he said that he could think of 5 or 6 markets that have taken notice one of which was Chicago.

yeah it says on fmqb that the new pd is looking for a music intensive show...but when you can bring a show as good as t & r to the market...you make exceptions.

and finally...Fred has been taking either the day before or day after the weekend off a bit recently...could be a coincidence but who knows...

oh and Chicago is a larger market than Boston, so anytime you can move up (and if it makes sense)...you do it...

maybe I'm right, maybe I'm wrong...but if it is true, that is a huge hole in the BCN Lineup

Let's see: WBCN's 12-plus number is pitiful; the allaccess.com analysis of the 25-54 listenership in Boston had it in 16th place; and Jessica Heslam's article on the latest ratings didn't even MENTION WBCN. Hmmmm
time for a new format? How about the style of progressive talk that has been doing ok on Seattle's CBS-owned KPTK?

When has "Progressive Talk" ever done well?

It seems like the northwest cities like Seattle and Portland, OR are just about the only places where Progressive Talk does fairly, though still not extremely, well. KPTK's 12+ numbers in Seattle are about what WBCN gets here. Better than most other "progressive talkers" I've ever seen, but still not great.

KTPK is an AM station though. There isn't much left for most AM's to do anymore but different varieties of talk. Here, it would not do even as well for WBCN as their current format does.

Progressive talk will never work. I'm not a radio expert but think about. The kinds of people who would want to hear a liberal talk show are to busy with their iPods. Conservative talk radio does great with the older listeners who aren't part of the iPod generation. There are more guys like me who want to hear a fart joke, than up tight liberals who want to listen to the likes of Al Franken tell us how bad this country is. WBCN does bad in the ratings becuase their music sucks, for a lack of a better word. Nobody wants to hear the same Coldplay and Weezer songs all day. It's a shame because Adam 12 is a good music DJ, they just wont let him play good music.

Toucher and Rich have a great show. Laugh out loud funny kind of show.
They get bogged down by having to play SONGS.
Their show, to me, does not seem to be a music-driven thing.
I don't tune in to T&R to hear the latest music.

Have some milk and cookies before you go to be tonight. They're 3rd in 18-34. That's all that really matters to them. They don't competete in 25-54. That's WMJX, WEEI, WROR, WTKK, WKLB, WZLX, WODS, etc. Not WBCN.
And, last time anyone cared about 12-plus, the Earth was still flat.

The Stephanie Miller show is fart-joke central.

"They're 3rd in 18-34. That's all that really matters to them. "

(Still haven't mastered the quote function...)

-I can almost guarantee that isn't true. That may be all that matters to the talent if that is what their bonuses are based on, but roughly 70% of agency business is A25-54 and nobody in sales or management can afford to turn their back on that much money. 18-34 is a nice niche, but as you said, they are 3rd, not 1st. I'm sure they have their success stories in that demo and with local advertisers in that demo, but WBCN's revenue has sunk like a rock the last couple of years, so many options should be on the table.

That said, IMHO, Toucher and Rich seems to be growing and working so they probably shouldn't mess with it.
