Toucher & Rich vs. Dennis & Callahan - Boston Globe

U said it is highly unlikely wilbers work would appear in the globe. Wilber says his work has appeared in the globe. I think Gasperr started at Boston.com, eventually his work appeared in the globe

The Boston Globe, which is owned by the NY Times. But, you wouldn't say it is from the Times, would you? The company has recently increased the distinction between .com and the Globe, and not just because of the paywall. The editing is separate. It is highly unlikely that Wilbur would ever appear in the Globe.

wilburs bio says he has appeared in the globe

http://boston.about.com/bio/Eric-Wilbur-60581.htm

Eric's work has appeared in The Boston Globe, The Globe's OT Sports Magazine, on Foxsports.com, NESN.com, The New England Ski Journal, and Boston.com, where he writes travel and sports. He is the sole author of The Boston Sports Blog on Boston.com, for whom he has covered two Super Bowls, a World Series, and skiing throughout New England.

But you do notice that the bio distinguishes between writing for boston.com and the Globe, right? You can comprehend that? It didn't appear in the Globe or on bostonglobe.com.

And show me how often he comes up in the Glove relative to him posting on boston.com. He posted on his boston.com blog, not Boston Globe. There's a difference.

For the record I don't remember the Globe having a particularly good relationship with any commercial talk station (or host). From The Dean, Guy, Dr. Brudnoy ...any of them.

I think the only --current-- Globe employee to have had his own gig was Jeff Jacoby who did weekends at BZ for a while. Maybe he had it while at the Herald I don't remember?
Globe seems to have been pretty careful as to what they let their staffers do.

I heard D&C briefly this morning and Kirk M said something along the lines of ' I don't know what I'm going to be doing as of next week." Which is his way of saying that he isn't discussing his status with Comcast ( GT asked him) because he hasn't been told yet what the future is.

Shaughnessy was a regular on the Mike Barnicle show, the original male host of Eagan and Braude(Eagan and Dan), had a weekend show with Adam Jones on the Sportshub.

NBC sports network not doing well?? or they run out of time with yahoo sports??

I would think the latter would be the first to fold...

And even though this is about the hosts and not their fans, I will throw this in because a shows fan base pretty much shows the type of people the hosts are.

When Rich came back from his time off being with his sick wife, they (T&R) received numerous texts from D&C fans gloating the fact that his wife was sick and hoped she would get worse...which btw she didn't, she kicked cancers @$$ and won! :)
I've checked a couple forums to learn more about the taunts directed at Rich's wife. The media board at SoSH, where hating WEEI is JOB#1, makes no mention of it. I would expect about 50 outraged posts from them. I would also expect one of Chad Finn's blogs devoted to the condemnation of all who listen to D&C. What is the source of this information about the texts? Was it mentioned on the air? Did anyone else hear it?

I heard the texts -- they were read on-air by Toucher. Again, it's what they claim, but doesn't this sound like D+C's audience? It sounds right to me . . .

The only thing correct in that article is the attribution of WBCN's demise to Nik Carter ;D

1. Nik Carter wasn't the reason for WBCN's demise. I'd say the first nail in the coffin was putting Opie & Anthony on in PM drive (or even Stern at nights, and I was/am a Stern fan).

B. Boston.com and The Boston Globe are co-owned and comingled entities but really two different brands. That's the vision the new editor has and it'll probably be borne out as things move forward. http://www.poynter.org/latest-news/...-boston-globe-will-untangle-its-two-websites/

III. As for Gresh, he's Fred Smerlas without the mumbling. The guy knows his football, and listening to Gresh and Zolak during football season was an educational experience. Merloni is just as good when it comes to talking baseball.

All hateful, gun toting, Republican racists, incapable of reaching the level of sophistication needed to understand "Drunken Updates" and the music of "Li'l Poopie". Does that adequately describe them? I understand your disdain.

WBCN's demise had nothing to do with the talent. It had to do with losing it's target audience which had more to do with the music then the talent. In the years WBCN was trying to make money (well after free form was dead..) there target audience was males 18-34. They swung to alternative when they saw that age group swing. By the time alternative was dying they had no where to go. The size of the audience listening had become too small for them to survive and CBS already had a classic rocker. The same problem was killing FNX but they could survive longer as they needed a smaller piece of the pie. That group is so fragmented today that I don't think anyone holds a big chunk of it? Sports radio probably has a lot of them but the rest are probably scattered from EDM to HipHop and probably very few with radios. CHR may be headed the same way with all these folks now fighting over the the women audiences. None of these large stations can survive with small numbers it will become a game of seeing who can hold out till the others flip.

It won't happen but here's what should happen. Barry Armstrong moves to Bloomberg 1200. WRKO puts Dennis and Callahan on in the morning to talk politics. Jeff Kuhner moves to the 9 to Noon slot before Rush. EEI develops a new morning show with Kirk Minihane at the helm.

D&C in the morning would be interesting. Do you think they could relate to a non sports audience? I know Callahan can relate to the right wingers but can Dennis talk politics for 3 or 4 hours. Crazy Kuhner does not work in the mornings. His first hour is some of the most pitiful broadcasting I have ever heard. I still contend he will not be here for more than 2 or 3 years.

The Globe's Business Reporter is on RKO every morning. I find it funny that several times shortly before or after his reports air Kuhner has taken to bashing the Globe.

Many Globe writers including Brian McGrory and Hiawatha Bray were on TTK regularly and the Globe has a working relationship with NECN.

Most of the Blogs that appear on Boston.com are written by various independent sources and are not edited by Globe or Boston.com editors.

Since RKO needs revenue, I doubt they would not want to continue their relationship Armstrong who buys a lot of time on the station including the 2 hours each day, the weekend show and those mini infomercials that run during Carr. Armstrong wants the older RKO audience he can sell retirement products to. I think he would beleive that RKO is a better fit for him than 1200.

At least WBCN was spared the format abortion that was "Free FM"...
