Toucher's gone, but not to Phoenix...

From Fred's website at http://www.fredtoucher.com :

"You heard it here first...
Since you guys have been so good to me over the last 7 years I will tell you first. My last show at 99X will be on Friday at the "Kegs and Eggs" party at Fado.

"...Rich, Crash and I are fielding job offers and are flying to a city on Sunday to meet with station brass. The good news is it is a lot closer to Kevin (Smith's) home in Red Bank, NJ! So he won't have to travel far to promote the straight to dvd realease of Clerks 2 and whatever toys he is ripping off his fans with.

"Anyway, Friday should be really fun. I hope you can make it out."

I guess we'll find out where on Friday, but unless Phoenix has moved east, it's not there...

Interestingly, he has since updated his blog item to snuff out the Kevin Smith and Red Bank, NJ reference and now just says it's a "Northeast" city. There are 11 Free Fms nationwide in New York, LA, Philly, Dallas, San Diego, San Fran, Baltimore, Chicago, Detroit, Phoenix and DC. But it appears he, Rich and Crash are meeting with brass at either 92.3 in NY or 94.1 in Philly. Clearly, they are wanted and will land somewhere soon.

Reading the NY Daily news recently it appears Diamond Dave's days are numbered in New York. I believe he is also syndicated in Philly and Boston. It all revolves around CBS wanted Dave show to go more towards where Howard was o go after the younger male ayudience. That would be where a show like their's would go.

You never want to follow a legend. You want to follow the guy who followed the legend. Could these boys be lucking into a prime morning gig in NY or even Philly? Prospects look good.

I think BosTon is a great place for Toucher. Fred referenced BosTon multiple times this week.

If you guys think that those 3 idiots are ready for New York radio..even on a station as horrible and poorly-programmed as 92.3 Freefall FM...you are living in a fantasy world.

He's not going to a Free FM station, nor one of those cities. As I said in another post, think parquet floors and tea parties.

I didn't say anything of the sort just putting the pieces together. Following Diamond Dave is not going to be a tough act to follow if that is what happens.

This begs the question...

Add in the likelyhood of JB moving on, and you have to wonder who will make up 99x's morning slot? Didn't someone say that Kim Lichtenstein is going with Jimmy?

Are we thinking Axel, Wally, Mitch for mornings now?

Maybe it's all a scam, and they're opening a Jiffy Lube, or Backyard Burger...
______________

I realize Joel Hollander and others are probably in somewhat of a panic over David Lee Roth. But big stations in big markets still have a lot of applicants to choose from. And prospective talent's ratings at their current station is usually a significant factor in the selection process. Based on that alone, I'd be very surprised if Toucher went to 92.3 in New York or 94.1 in Philly. If the show goes to a big market, I'd bet on a move-in with a signal problem in the market it's trying to serve or a long-time ratings-challenged station.

I spoke with Toucher and Crash's agent Norm Schrutt and it's not necessarily one of the Infinity Free FM stations. It could be Jersey 101.5 for all we know. Norm said they are looking at other alt. rock stations, not just FM talk. Toucher is technically paid through October with Susquehanna/Cumulus but neither Rich nor Crash are earning a salary right now so I'm sure they'll make a decision relatively soon.

Must be Wilkes Barre or Scranton.

There's NO FLIPPIN WAY he would last or earn any market share in NYC, PHILLY, Boston. The listeners are far too discerning.

Remember these cities are use to talent like Howard or O+A. Think about it, they won't even put Mancow on in these cities............

ha!

Anyone considering signing on with any of the Free FM's is in deep doo.

Wasn't it CBS that created the debacle known as Blink-FM in NYC?

This will be Blink Part Deux and it will all end in tears.

I can only think of two morning shows in the country that might have a chance to be successful following the guy that bombed following Stern:

Regular Guys or Opie and Anthony. Done, over and out.

Hope Toucher lands in a happy place. WXRK will be back to primarily music in less than a year.

I'd be surprised if K-Rock went back to music anytime soon. CBS ,and a lot of the big boys are hell bent on this FM-talk thing. As for Toucher, and the boys going to NYC, or Philly. I grew up in NYC, and went to college in Philly. The listener tastes are far different than those here in dixie. I think he might have a shot up there. But then again I don't think DLR is as bad as people say. Neither DLR,or Toucher are Howard. But with the right producer who knows??
______________
