Tougaloo College to acquire WUFX (My 35)

So let me get this straight. He buys WUFX for 500k and then sells it to Tougaloo for $1? What is Tougaloo going to do with it? I guess they still won't be in HD. I wish they would switch to CW and go HD because 34 is hard to pick up in Jackson and they also refuse to broadcast in HD.

When WUFX was FOX they had killer ratings, went straight to the toilet, just like WDBD did when they dropped Fox and went with the WB network. Us antenna and some dish users couldn't get NASCAR, American Idol, the Super Bowl and the World Series which were all on Fox that year, and ch. 35 was not yet on the air. I still can't figure out why the owners of WDBD did that. It was suicide.

If I remember the story correctly, it had to do with money WDBD's owners didn't want to pay to Fox, so they decided to switch over to the WB. I'd have to research it, unless others here know the story (I was out of the market when it happened).

If I remember correctly. WDBD's owners had some other stations that also dropped the Fox network. Cable viewers were able to watch a cable-only channel "FoxNet" but those without cable were out of luck. Satelite had Fox, but it wasn't on most basic packages. The day of the Superbowl people were scrambling trying to get the channel added to their line-up. I guess I could gone to a resturant or a friends house to watch the game, but we wound up listening to the game on WSLI AM (or WSFZ whichever the call letters were back then)

I wish channel 35 would broadcast in HD. The Saints were playing the other day and it seems strange now watching football with the sides cut off. CW 34 could use some HD also.

Technology, like life in general, moves slow in Mississippi. I liked the slower pace when I lived there, but I hated having poor phone reception, rocky internet service and only one local OTA HD signal to choose from in Grenada. Now I'm in Mobile (a/k/a Darwin's Waiting Room) but at least two carriers have true 4G here and all the newscasts are in HD, and even CW, My Network TV and the completely independent channel (WJTC) all broadcast in HD. But even here, we have unreliable and slow DSL, so streaming TV online is still a pipe dream.
