Tough Day In Maitland

Re: cheap channel does it again

Wow, I remember listening to Oddo when I first moved down here in 1994 when he was a DJ on their real music weekends. I also remember seeing Bubba Wilson at Universal when he was a member of the Hollywood Hightones singing bass for them in front of Mels Drive-in.
Way to go cheap channel, yea, this will help out the resession

i remember oddo when he was chris mason on mix 105......and i worked with him on the weekends at real radio. it's a tough business anymore, any media outlet. newspapers are dying off, tv is, well, uh, different, and full-time jobs in radio are few and far between. Ask anyone who is looking.

here's hoping they all land on their feet!

You know it's getting bad when they start cutting staff at the local management's precious Real Radio. Used to be those guys were untouchable as long as the top talent on that station had their say. Guess those days are over guys. I'll go ahead and bet the farm that this is not the end... still way to much salary on 104.1.

They should get rid of those kids that host that AWFUL metal/punk show that comes on WJRR late Saturday night.....

It looks like Clear Channel is putting their money on inhouse syndication....one format, one jock, hundreds of stations. Advice to those looking to get into broadcasting...try and get into Management,Sales or learn Engineering. Stations will always need someone who can put them back on the air...DJ's,News People,Talk Hosts are just un-necessary expenses.

Sad thing is cheap channel also cut a bunch of engineer positions in Maitland too. No job in radio is sacred anymore. Here's the link to the R&R story including some of the people across the country who were let go. http://www.radioandrecords.com/RRWebsite20/members/ShowHeadline.aspx?FormatId=0&ContentID=49014

Just got to know Tom Benson...hate to see him go. The business is crazy right now and these cuts keep telling us that there are very few 'untouchables.'

The big guys at Clear Channel are total MORONS....

Why in the hell fire Bubba Wilson??????

He was a MAJOR part of the Monsters.....I cannot imagine that show without the songs that Bubba did...

I am not even a fan of the Monsters and this is not a good move.....

I have to agree DIZ. He was by no means the weakest link in the chain. I could think of two others that could have been axed and not hurt the show. The loss of Bubba will be a major loss to the show.

I agree 100%... this is by far my least favorite show on WTKS (I prefer Shannon Burke & the Phillips Phile) , but Bubba was the most entertaining on that otherwise un-listenable Monster's in the morning show.

Another great example of how STUPID this guys are......(Clear Channel, of course)

1. Let's fire a guy that is part of Orlando's NUMBER ONE AFTERNOON TALK SHOW.....

Once again, I am not a fan of Philips, never have been, but why mess with a successful show??????

These are probably the same guys that thought that it would be a good idea to put Madonna in the Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame...

Does anyone know which engineers lost their jobs? This is important.
