Tough Sledding for Air America

A memo sent to ABC Radio affiliates indicates that many national advertisers don't care to have their network commercials running in Air America programming. Over a hundred including Goodyear, Nissan, Bank of America and Hewlitt-Packard.

I know of one example, a well known local coffee chain, that passed also when approached by one of Buffalo's "liberal" formatted AM stations.

Is it any wonder Air America isn't doing well financially?

It is not unusual for advertisers to steer clear of political talk radio of all stripes. The big issue outstanding is how many on that list will advertise with conservative talk radio but not liberal talk, and those will be subject to a protest campaign and boycotts, which is exactly why so many advertisers don't want to be on political shows in the first place.

-> I listen to AA quite a bit and dont think I've ever heard any of these advertizers that you mention. Here in Rochester, AA is still broadcasting like nothing ever happened. Shows like Ed Shultz, Rachel Maddow, and a few more are also broadcast, but they are not AA affilated. Liberal/progressive shows continue to pop up more and more these days, despite the problems with Air America. Whether they go down completely remains to be seen. My gut says they will get pulled off sooner or later, but other than Al Franken and trailor trashman Jerry Springer, I do feel that Randi Rhoes will survive and be picked up from somewhere else. That early morning show from AA (the young turks or something like that) are so new, they too will probably be dumped.

One of the problems I see is that alot of folks think AA has control over so many of the newer liberal/progressive talk show hosts, but in reality they do not.
