tower along Bayshore Freeway near Brisbane

There is a short tower on the southbound side of 101 ,the Bayshore, between Beatty and Lagoon Rd. This is the area where 101 is right up alongside the Bay,south of Candlestick Park.

I noticed this tower about 1 year ago I assume it is still there ,what is it for ?

alok

It's not the old 1260 tower; that's on the hill back behind Candlestick Park. The short tower alongside southbound 101 past the stadium is a privately-owned communications tower.

What about the tower right along side the bay bridge? It is built on a foundation in the water on the east side of the bridge. If memory serves, there are more than one tower.

I believe it's KIQI-AM's tower.

Why do people keep posting stuff like this? No, it's not KIQI's tower. No it's not the 1260 tower.

As was stated by a previous poster it's a private communicaitons antenna tower. When I asked about it a year or so ago I was told that it had something to do with the construction company that is charged with grading and building on the former Brisbane dump site.

KIQI has 3 towers adjacent to the Bay Bridge. 1260 whatever it's called has its single tower on Candlestick Hill overlooking the freeway between the freeway and Candlestick park.

To piss you off. It's become America's #2 spectator sport.

Want to guess what #1 is?

I was referring the KIQI-AM post to this question which was directly above my post.

Huh? The post directly above your comment says this:
"It's not the old 1260 tower; that's on the hill back behind Candlestick Park. The short tower alongside southbound 101 past the stadium is a privately-owned communications tower."

I notice your quote above shows a reference to another post but I don't see it. I wonder if my browser (Firefox) has some weird cookie disorder or something. Odd.

Thanks to all for the info.! As a technology geek, I have a natural curiosity.

David and Newt. The great instigators... :p

There are three sets of (3) towers by the Bay Bridge Toll Plaza. One set belings to KIQI 1010, the other set belongs to the old KABL 960 and the other set belongs to the old KDIA 1310 which is now KMKY.

The single tower on Candlestick Hill is 1260 AM, the old KYA, KOIT and now Catholic Radio.

Do I get a prize?

Sure! Except that you're missing one. At the top of the 1260 tower is the back-up FM antenna of 93.3 (the original KYA-FM aka the original KOIT).

For extra points tell us who's on the tower at the foot of Ashby and on the site at the foot of Central Avenue in El Cerrito.

On Ashby that would be the Big 610 and KVTO 1400. El Cerrito, ummmm let's see here, ummmm.......

Easy peasy. The two-tower array at the foot of Central Avenue in El Cerrito is KKSF 910 (aka KNEW, KEWB, KLX) along with the daytime (but not nighttime) transmitter of KDIA 1640.
