Tower Collapse in Arkansas

The transmission tower of Little Rock, AR TV station KATV-Channel 7-(ABC), located near Redfield, AR, collapsed early this afternoon. The over 2000 foot structure was the 2nd tallest man-made structure in the world when it was built in 1967. It remained the 2nd tallest tower in the country and one of the tallest in the world, until it's collapse today. A tower crew was re-stringing guy wires when the accident occured. The workers were on the ground when the accident happened and thankfully, only one minor injury was reported. The tower was a landmark in Arkansas, being positioned near Interstate 530 about halfway between Pine Bluff and Little Rock. The tower could be seen for miles away along the highway.

The tower also carried the analog signal of KETS-Channel 2, the flagship station of the Arkansas Educational Television Network (PBS).
