Tower crew should know better....

Nothing funner than putting one of those multiple T padlock devices back together in pouring rain and wind. Late night. Laying on your back to see under the security shield.

There's an easy fix for this: Cut the chain short and insert the extra cut out links between locks. Then the two locks cannot interconnect.

@ local oscillator: where did you find a chain link gate that plays nice?

I'd bet one whole US Dollar that there isn't a single transmitter site with two gates that play nice with each other... such as I 'seen' in the photo.

We had our site rekeyed entirely, now the gates have one padlock only. Their "key" will open the padlock and also their space/workarea ONLY. The owners have a master key. Works well.

This crew had already removed the hinges on the small gate so they could begin working.

The picture is of the vehicle gate's aperture..

Why not just have one high quality lock and multiple keys for that lock. That's got to be better than daisy chaining locks.

I've been locked in by crews this way. Now I carry bolt cutters.
While I've yet to need them, I carry them as well. Bolt cutters are like insurance--as long as you have it, you probably won't need it.

Cell companies (I deal with 4 of them) like to use their own combination locks, and they do change the combinations from time to time. They avoid keys like the plague.

I actually prefer keyed locks with a master key for all of my site gates (guy points, etc.). And, I do still carry my bolt cutters -- left over from the old daisy-chain days.

This tower is a cable TV headend and the tower's no longer of service to them but it hosts a LPTV station along with the FM station.

The gate was always unlocked when I went to the site and I would lock it as I left. Upon seeing the pattern, I had the station owner start emailing the cable company a notice that the gate was left unlocked; just to establish deny-ability.

I gave up on pushing them to install warning signs; however, I did post the ASRN on the transmitter building...
