Tower destroyed by tornado

Back on October 29th, the recently built 300 foot tower for station KCAC-89.5 FM in Camden, AR took a direct hit by a strong F-2 tornado and collapsed. The tower was located on the grounds of the Arkansas Fire Academy, which was also heavily damaged by the storm. KCAC is owned and operated by SAU-Tech Community College in East Camden and recently upgraded to 10,000 watts of power. The station is still off the air, while repair plans are being formulated. Aside from the fire academy damage, SAU-Tech is having to deal with heavy roof damage to most of its buildings on the main campus, located about 3 miles away.

According to the FCC, KCAC and SAU-Tech has filed and been granted a 6 month STA to resume broadcasting from their former, low power transmitter site located inside the city of Camden. The filing notes that due to the severity of the damage to the entire SAU-Tech campus, it could be longer than 30 days before this temporary arrangement can start, so an STA to remain silent for more than 30 days has also been granted.
