Look for WYAB 93.1 FM's signal to be MUCH better in Madison, Ridgeland, Clinton, and Jackson by the end of the year. The FCC approved the tower move application on Monday afternoon and construction on the new facility should come within 60 days (land and funding are secured, in other words).
www.radio-locator.com is way off in its coverage, as is often the case (though it can give you a *general* feel for the new signal). They show the new contour in Yazoo City to be fairly good (when it will not be) and Vicksburg to be a "fringe" area, when it will probably not even come in that well, due to terrain obstacles in both places. Favorable terrain will put a 60 dBu signal over ALL of Clinton, Madison, Ridgeland, most of Jackson, I-220, Lakeland Drive, the Reservoir, most all of Madison County, the northern half of Hinds County, and a good portion of Rankin County. The 55 dBu contour will cover Yazoo City, Raymond, Brandon, Bolton, Edwards, Byram, Lexington, and Belzoni. If you would like to see a specific map of Longley-Rice or PtP predicted coverage, then just email me at matt (at) wyab (dot) com.
The total time that the FCC devoted to this project was over 27 months, a near record turnaround time! WYAB filed the city of license change petition in April of 2003, it was finally granted in January of 2005, the actual application to move was filed a few weeks after that, WQST then took a C0 downgrade for WYAB in June, and the application was granted on July 25.
WYAB is going to stay Oldies after the move, unless (joking) y'all think that Classic Country would go over better!
