Tower Question

I see what seems like hundreds of towers. Tv, radio, cell, etc. Who services them? Who changes the lights? Performs inspections? Erecting? Etc. I've been Googling tower companies in Memphis, and have come to believe that all tower work is performed by out of state companies. Are there Memphis people who do that?

Everyone who does tower work does not have a website, or even insurance. If you need a tower crew, why not call some radio/pager/cellular companies with towers and ask who does their work and if they recommend them? Don't make it hard.

I had a friend that used to change light bulbs in towers. He was based out of the gulf shores area but owned a small plane and traveled the country climbing those towers. I seem to recall he charged about a dollar a foot. 1,000 ft of tower? He was paid a grand.

K~

I never knew about FM towers, but for AM the cardinal rule is to make your first step on to a tower your best one...by that I mean jump like Van Halen to the first rung. Step up to that rung with your second foot on the ground and you'll interfere with the signal from the station and listeners will call and complain until somebody comes out and knocks you off. Management hates to lose signal, particularly a commercial interruption, so B Smart, Jump Start!

I believe OSHA suggest the tower is taken off line before anyone becomes one with the tower.

Someone had posted a You Tube video recently which showed the second tower of a two-tower directional AM, while not even "hot", putting on an arcing display across damaged arc balls (quit snickering)...

This tower wasn't even hooked up at the time... just picking up the signal from another tower 500 feet away.

I knew a fella who's Dr. "damaged" his arc balls during vasectomy surgery.
He sued and got a LOT of money!
;D
sorry. couldn't resist.

Weren't those the kind Noah had?
