Towers and Reception

I drove through Brentwood for the first time in a few years and noticed there are 3 broadcast towers off Old Hickory Blvd - 2 on the Metro side and 1 on the Brentwood side. Has this always been the case and what stations transmit from there? Seems I can only remember one tower there years ago that I believe belonged to WSIX-FM and channel 2 TV. And where is WWTN's tower. For the past year or so they have been fading in and out as I drive up and down the streets of Clarksville and become unlistenable sometimes on the back 40 of FT Campbell.

The single tower in Brentwood is WKDF/WNRQ/WPLN/WRLT...been there since the 80's.
The dual towers are indeed WSIX-FM/WNPT-8/WKRN-2...
at this point, I think one is for the digital TV....the other radio. I could be way off, though...

Chris is correct.
The two towers north of OHB carry the signals of WNPT and WSIX-FM on the south tower and WKRN on the north tower which went up about five years back. The tower south of OHB transmits the signals of WNRQ, WKDF, WPLN and Lightning 100 and went up in 1982.

WWTN is located just west of the Rockvale community about 6 miles west of Murfreesboro. Reception problems in Clarksville expected due to the shear distance, terrain blocking and another class-C signal in Memphis. This problem is further exacerbated by atmospheric inversions created by frontal boundaries that can exist between Clarksville and Murfreesboro.

The north WKRN tower has WAY-FM on it now, in addition to the conbined CH 2- Ch 8 Digital signals. Watt, they put their stuff in the hallway between the shop and the room with the Digital transmitters.

I wonder if Ch-2 will ever remove the old "super-turnstyle" antenna? Given the condition of Young Broadcasting, might have answered my own question. I wrongly presumed ch-8 remained on the old tower as they went back to their old NTSC channel, that would free up a lot of vertical real estate . I also noticed just recently the WAYE fm panel was no longer on the tower off I-65 and TN-840 and for a moment wondered where they moved to, but only for a moment.

I was driving down OHB late last year and didn't recognize the old drive-way or I missed it all together, everything has changed so much up there. Thought about some of the old characters that work up there years ago. Chuck Dillard, Cap Duke, Richmond Burton, John Ferguson; all gone now.

Channel 8 is *still* on the channel 2 tower?

My understanding is that they shared a UHF antenna pre-transition, but when channel 8 moved back to RF-8 last June they switched back to using their old analog antenna.
