Towers on Vashon Island

What is Vashon Island??? It's an island in Washington state located in the Puget sound between Seattle and Tacoma....Surrounded by salt water...its AM transmitter land.

See Eagles fly around the KVI tower…. Jim and Ernie work on the 1090 phaser…..The park like facility of KOMO.

Tower Tour Starts Here http://vashonradio.com/towertour

Also check out this article that ran in our local paper about the beach where the KVI tower is located. When was the last time any one described your transmitter site in such a nice way.
KVI Beach draws plant lovers, bird watchers and dogs http://www.vashonbeachcomber.com/portals-code/list.cgi?paper=90&cat=48&id=1134363&more=0

Thank you for that. My wife and I are thinking about visiting the Seattle area and that would be a fun side trip.
Only one thing, are there any scrapbooking stores on Vashon, to keep her busy?

No official scrap booking stores. Vashon is a small town but we have great shops that I know she would enjoy. The Little house, Island Thyme, Old and Funqui, Giraffe and the new Dig Garden and Design store are great places. We also have two great book stores.

Browse the VashonPages.com business directory before you come out to get an idea of what you may want to visit (businesses, restaurants and places to stay). On a nice warm day its no problem strolling the town and take in the shops. On a nice warm day you may not get past KVI beach. KOMO is a great place for a picnic, very park like. Also during the summer we have wine tours. There are three wine shops on the island. There are also lots of Artist Galleries on the Island. Every first Friday of the month we have a Gallery Cruise.

So lots of great places to explore and you can get an RF fix while your at it.

I never really thought about this until now, but is there any chance the V I in the KVI call sign referred to Vashon Island? Even though it is a Seattle license, did the station ever actually operate from the island with studios at the xmtr site?

Actually I think KVI was origanally a Tacoma Station in the early mid 30's. I often wondered if the VI stood for Vashon Island. As far as I know the staion did not program from Vashon.
