Townsquare officially owns Milli

The folks in the executive suite at Townsquare have certainly had plenty of time to think about what they will do next with the Millennium stations. They have known for many months that this was going to happen, and since the prior owner of Millennium was the big bucks parent company of Townsquare, Oak Tree Capital, they had access to any information they wanted, and could have made any immediate changes already.

One can only wonder what input and impact they had on the departure of the Jersey Guys on NJ-101.5 earlier this summer. The Townsquare suits may have listened one afternoon, and said "the PM drive team has to change ASAP." And so it did.

Still, you also have to wonder how much attention the big suits can pay to any individual station since the company didn't exist two years ago, and with planned acquisitions they will be up to 220 stations soon. It is probably safe to assume that many of them were problem stations in financial distress, and so there needs to be a whole lot of fixing going on.

This will be fun to watch from the outside, let's hope it's not too detrimental to most of those already on the Millennium inside.

It would be nice if they took SOJO back to how it was in the beginning, a bit more alternative sounding with little pop/CHR being played. It's not a bad station though, just sounds horribly cheap. Almost as if it's being done on a shoe string budget.

I'm not a fan of the fact John Driscoll may have been replaced. That means "Not New York, Not Philadelphia, Proud to be New Jersey" (voiced by him) is the next thing to go. You don't toss 20 years of branding out the window on a whim unless you have bigger plans.

From EJ, via email:

John is still on the station, but we have also incorporated an additional “big voice”.

I notice that 101.5's voiceover guy seems to have changed... Who's the new voice?

I tuned in hearing the hurricane warnings since I live in the shore, and the new VO sounds very similar to Pat Garrett. Just my guess.

Somehow I highly doubt they plan to leave John Driscoll as the big voice for much longer. On the stream yesterday I had two ads for RadioPup, one voiced by each person, back to back.

You don't have two similar sounding people voice the same promos for very long.

"Our own radio station" has also been dropped from the top of the hour sounder.

I just heard "Our own radio station" used yesterday (online stream).
For some reason they tend to not use that on the weekend, but you'll hear that during the week.
This was also the case when I was there at the beginning of this year for 4 months.
