Townsquare takes KKAM Lubbock silent

Silent STA includes both KKAM and its translator.

“Due to economic conditions in the market, the licensee was forced to take the station off the air temporarily. The licensee respectfully requests special temporary authority for the station to remain silent. The licensee will promptly notify the Commission when it is able to resume station operations.”

Sad.

50 years ago I remember 1340 in Lubbock as KLBK, part of an AM/FM/TV combo using the same call letters. KLBK was the “other” Top 40 station in town, in competition with (the now long gone) KSEL 950.

Lubbock, like Amarillo to the north, is likely over-radioed, with a ton of FM signals. AM in both those markets has fallen into irrelevance.

Could you please site/quote your source?

Since he references a STA filing, you can see the FCC filings online: https://enterpriseefiling.fcc.gov/d...&id=25076ff39d432dcf019d49a75b29042f&goBack=N

That'll work, but I believe it's standard policy up here, that, when you report something, to have a quote from an official source and/or a link to an article or something to that effect, stating what you're reporting is correct/valid. It's kinda like a Bibliography (I believe that's the term) in a term paper or school assignment, the way I see it anyway.

"STA" is an FCC term. Citing an STA would indicate a reference to a filing that has been made at the FCC.

I think you mean a "note" or "footnote" that attributes the source and location of a cited piece of information. A bibliography is a source of information on the same subject.

Gotcha and that's the one, David, thanks.

Interesting that the filing with the FCC says "forced to take the station off the air temporarily." That implies it will return? Or is Townsquare just holding out a thread of hope it could go back on the air if "economic conditions" improve?

First of all, I don’t make things up when I post news items.

When I do post items regarding FCC filings I generally include a link if the filing has multiple attachments with additional information. I also post a link when there are no attachments, as I did with the KTNO shutdown thread on the DFW board.

But sometimes there is just a single attachment with a brief explanation for the filing, which was the case with KKAM. I simply did a cut and paste as linking to the filing wouldn’t reveal any additional relevant info.

Perhaps I will start providing a link, regardless, to keep everyone happy.

Townsquare probably doesn’t want to spend more money on the station, and is buying time while deciding what to do next. Likely they will look for a buyer, and failing that, turn in the license.

There are essentially no prospects of economic conditions improving for an AM graveyard station.

Yeah, I thought that was interesting wording, too. Nah, just buying time, using what legalese they can to do so.
