Townsquare's KLUB Tejano Takes Over South Texas Radio

https://news.****************/articles/n41586/Townsquares-KLUB-Tejano-Takes-Over-South-Texas-Radio

A format flip has taken place on South Texas Radio.

Townsquare Media/Victoria, TX, the home to KIXS-FM, KTXN-FM (98.7 Jack FM) and KQVT-FM (Q92), launches a new station in the market, KLUB as "Tejano 106.9." The station debuted at 12pm on Tuesday, broadcasting to towns that have never had Tejano music on the radio dial like Goliad, Edna, Port Lavaca and Yorktown, among others.

Townsquare/Victoria Market President Mason Benitez made the move after surveying the market and finding out what holes needed to be filled. "Tejano is huge in this area. The concerts are always sold out and any festival featuring Tejano does really well. We wanted to give our audience what they were previously missing on the radio."

I just noticed about that today, I was going to post it but you beat me to it.

I don't want to say I called it, but I called it. Not meaning to sound insensitive, but a lot of the classic rock audience are falling out of radio's demographic target. Even if you were only 16 in 1973 when Pink Floyd's Dark Side of the Moon was released, that would make you 64 (possibly 65) today. Playing it safe, if you were 16 when "Don't Hold Back" by Boston came out in 1978, you are 59 (possibly 60) today. This audience is out of the 35-54 demographic, so I expect more of these formats to flip as time goes by.
