Please change your ad campaign! The terrible remake of "Saved By Zero" (which I actually liked when The Fixx did it) is abominable at best. Go back to the studio, this time with The Fixx, use the original version or find another song. This spot is definitely a tune out. Anyone with me?

Agreed, not so good. However, I do love the Swifter Mop commercials with Player's 1977 "Baby Come Back"!

I think it has something to do with royalty fees.
Much like how you can go to the grocery store and pay too much for several pints of milk, or just buy a gallon to better meet your needs for less.

Why pay for various tunes in rotation when one song over and over is cheaper...and delivers the same message?

Plus, the cover tune may cost less to use. (now we're getting into the powdered milk...perhaps. lol)

But the consumers need saving and with a zero per centage point (although Very, Very, Very few people actually qualifiy for this promotion) They are saved by zero ... per cent that is!

You know what? This is not the first time a car company has used that song for such an ad campaign! I believe the last one was Nissan - or maybe it was Toyota recycling their own idea! Does anyone remember?

Or maybe that's the song that came up on the dartboard that the ad execs used to choose the song for the next campaign. You notice a lot of these offenders are usually car manufacturers. And every tenth song is from The Who(res)!

"An original jingle? What's that?"

The most ironic use of a jingle, however, had to go to Microsoft, who used The Rolling Stones' song "Start Me Up" to launch Windows 95, seemingly forgetting that the next line of the song was, "You make a grown man cry". Maybe they should have used that for Vista, too.

There have definitely been worse ads. The worst one I can recall was for Kia's year end sale a couple of years back where sales people were singing and dancing to a song from The Sound of Music (I think) that started "Goodbye, farewell...", :p but I don't remember the exact title. It was definitely worse than the current Toyota ad.

Re: FoMoCo's Lincoln ads are FAR Worse!

I've said it before, but those current Lincoln ads where the female "singer" tortures, butchers, emasculates, and then finally slaughters Bowie's "Major Tom" are even worse than the hackey remake of "Saved by Zero." To my ears, much worse. In fact, someone needs to call Amnesty International to complain...it's that bad!

Besides, the Saved by Zero campaign actually has me considering a visit to my local Toyota dealer. I need a smaller vehicle to replace my thirsty truck! Therefore, it is effective.

To be fair, the actual next line is, "I never stop... Start me up/I never stop, never stop, never stop..."

Then there is that line at the end of the song, "You make a dead man c---"...
