Tracy Jones and Scott Sloan show

It's amazing to see just how fast the 3-6 PM slot has deteriorated since Gary Burbank retired in 2007. Has anyone else grown tired of Scott and Tracy's act already? It's almost the same thing everyday and it's become unbearable. Eddie Fingers did a great job of toning Tracy down, and Sloan does nothing but add more fuel to Tracy's fire.

The fake callers have got to go too. The voice actor who plays Rod is doing a horrible job since you can tell it's just a different variation of Richard from Indian Hill and Nick from Loveland's voice. Can't beleive I used to enjoy listening to Tracy's Extra Innings Show several years ago. I guess less is more when you're dealing with Tracy Jones.

I can't imagine why a 50,000 watt signal has to air this mess of a radio show either. It sounds like CB radio is making a comeback.

I hate to type this because it means they are kicking *my* ass, but....

they're the number one show on the number one station in town. Apparently, very few people are tired of the act. Why mess with a successful product?

Totally agree with you Rambo.... The "schtick" (if you can even call it that)... is old, tired, and just plain boring. How many times can Tracy Jones ask a female's weight... like that has anything to with the conversation, ever.

When I DID listen when their show first started back a few years ago when Fingers was on; it always annoyed me how Jones would talk himself up, as if he was THAT good of a Baseball player. MARGINAL at best. He was definately not a Cal Ripken or Ken Griffey Jr. (It's called - Get OVER YOURSELF TRACY JONES-- You SUCKED AS A BALL PLAYER AND YOU SUCK AS A RADIO JOCK!!!)

Really 2ndsout? Do you NOT get that Tracy does that on purpose? It's sarcasm. That's a running gag.

How do those of you who claim to know anything about radio and complain about Tracy NOT understand that that's a bit. It's not a really funny bit, but it has its place.

I understand it is a running gag, but think of it like this- If you went to see a magician, and the only trick that the magician knew was pulling a rabbit out of his hat and making the rabbit eat a carrot.. then the magician was performing again a year later at your favorite venue and you saw the same magic trick.. wouldn't you think it was old after a while?

It's called- yes that is a "great running gag" if you even want to call it that, but C'MON it's OLD, it's TIRED, and NO ONE FICKEN CARES!!!

If Howard Stern did the same thing OVER AND OVER AGAIN, he never would have landed the deal that he did with Sirius and XM.

I think that 700 basically has Tracy and Sloan on because they couldn't find anyone else to fill the time slot, and who would fill a time slot with a syndicated program.

I know it's an act... but GAWD.. get some new bits or SOMETHING.... gee-sus!!!

If the magician were doing that, I'd quit going to see him.

If the radio bits bored me, I'd quit listening....quit giving them publicity..find something new to listen to, or do, in the afternoon. I mean...gee-sus!

<can't stand the Sloanie and Tracy show...even if I were not on at the same time, I would not listen to it. It amuses the hell out of me that the rest of you who hate it still do>

I consider the Sloanie and Tracy Show to be a rude interruption between the news, sports and traffic service that has been an broadcasting institution, to our city, for 50+ years.

The standards of this program are along the same line as Bubba the Love Sponge. Sophomoric, moronic and, at times tasteless. Though Randy Michaels would air some material during Midday (i.e. playing Doug Clark and the Hot Nuts singing "Baby Let Me Bang Your Box" during a discussion with Citizens for Community Values) - this was the exception, not the norm.

I agree, the fake calls, the personal travails of Jones, etc. have had their 15 minutes long ago. Local competition with news, traffic and sports would be interesting. Perhaps it's just around the bend.

Eddie and Tracy were a big snooze.

As for Sloanie & Tracy, I'd rather laugh a little as opposed to listening to yet another talk show about how "bad" everything is, politics, the economy, blah blah blah, how the country is going to hell in a handbasket, etc, etc. Who needs THAT on the way home from work? Sure, Sloanie & Tracy are ridiculous, they're not Gary Burbank, but at least they're an escape from the usual syndicated yakkers.

The phone call where Tracy made the girl scout "cry" over the stolen cookies was classic. There's no way that girl was only 8 years old.... that was a planted call, no question. Her crying was also effective. I understand that listeners were so outraged over Tracy scolding her that they bombarded the Kroger where the girls were selling cookies.

Had Eddie Fingers and CC management not reached an impasse, a much better fit for that afternoon slot would have been Eddie and Sloanie. Scott at least has something to say the majority of the time. And unlike Jones, Sloan's opinions and life experience aren't derived solely from disrespect of and chauvinism toward women, compounded by crippling insecurity. I understand he extroverts and exploits those serious issues in an effort to be entertaining on air. That only amplifies his already ego-maniacal, assbag personality to ridiculous proportions, irritating in fact. His schtick grows old quickly. Were it not for someone like Sloan anchoring the show, Jones would be even more unlistenable, lost in his sea of self-congratulation and name-dropping. (By the way, how many of those dropped names do you think let their phones go to voicemail when they see Jones' number pop up?)

Jones wants to be Cincinnati's Howard Stern, but clearly lacks the skills and personality. Cincy doesn't need a Stern anyway - we need another Burbank or a local Bob & Tom. Since that isn't likely to happen, the preferable solution would simply be for him to exit WLW, radio in general, and Cincinnati at large. And based on some comments heard on LW yesterday (relayed second-hand to me, however, so context may be at issue), that may be in the works. Keep your fingers crossed.

Wow... And I suppose you thought the on-air discord between Eric Deters and Marc Amazon was REAL too! It's no wonder WLW's specialty is concocted drama. Some of you are just too easy to fool. ::)

I'm not fooled, that's why I don't listen to WLW in the afternoon anymore. As I have stated before- Tracy Jones and Scott Sloan are a joke for "Broadcasters"...and I'll use that term in quotations- because neither of them really are.

But everyone is Cincinnati just HAS to drink the Clear Channel Kool-Aid... so 700 is "Doing something right.. aren't they?"

What a joke for a radio station afternoon show... ::) :-[ :-\

Listened again for a little while on Friday. If it's true that Tracy has been named interm Program Director I guess we'll be subject to even more fake callers on each show.

What's with Scott Sloan? It seems he does nothing but egg Tracy on and add more fuel to his fire.

I hear 'Gullible' is in the dictionary. Don't believe me? Look it up.

And there's your show.

Excellent post.

I would only add... that there's really nothing to add. ;)

I'll add: Hook, line, and sinker. It's much easier to just pretend the show doesn't exist, which is what I do. Hell, outside of Reds coverage I pretend the entire station doesn't exist! ;D

I'll add on: It isn't rocket science, it's about (as someone you know would say...) ratings and revenue.

The show and station (minus the news, sports and overnights), is one thing: entertainment. If you don't take it seriously, it's hilarious to listen to. Just be sure to wear earplugs when Eric "I LOVE TO SHOUT" Deters is on - even though it doesn't help.

Sorry but I don't find a radio show that relies almost completely on fake callers entertaining.

Uhh, no. At no point did I state or imply that I buy into any of the manufactured on-air discord. For one, I knew nothing about a Deters-Amazon "feud", nor do I care. Second, behind Jones, Deters is the other reason I no longer listen to LW. My point was that Jones' schtick is so non-engaging, borderline offensive and forced, he reminds me of Stern. I hadn't yet heard either that he may have been named interim PD. If it gets him off the air, it's a positive. LW is essentially done. Burbank's retirement was the beginning of the end; McConnell's leaving was the coffin nail.
