Tracy Rowlett

Today is Tracy Rowlett final day at CBS 11.A retrospective of his career will air on the 5:00 pm newscast, with repeats on the 6:00 and 10:00 pm News show.

He is, quite possibly, one of the last true journalists in this market. I think Byron Harris is possibly the last of the "Oklahoma Mafia" that Marty Haag brought down from OKC when he came to WFAA years ago.

I have trouble believing that the folks at Chesapeake are really going to let Rowlett be unbiased when he moves over to "Shale TV" (a web-based effort) later this month. But time will tell. His reputation precedes him, and if he's not allowed to do what he perceives is his job, look for him to resurface in broadcast TV (possibly at Channel 8).

Does he still live in North Dallas and commute to Fort Worth every day? If so, he is trading one FW gig for another. He probably owns a helicopter though. ;)

Tracy really ought to write a book about his career. I think it would sell enough copies to justify its publication.

When I was a Radio/TV student at UTA in 1979, I recommended the book Dan Rather had written about his career, "The Camera Never Blinks," to the head of the Radio/TV department. He enjoyed the book, too. The next semester, that book became one of the text books used in the RATV classes.

A book by Tracy probably would become required reading for RATV college students in the North Texas region, as well.
