The local Cumulus stations are officially out from under their 4-year contract with Metro Networks (Metro since swallowed up by CC's Total Traffic) as of June 30. KSCS's Michael Scott has been let go after 18 years. Looks like Monty and Laura made the move to the new Cumulus in-house traffic service known as "Right Now Traffic." From what I can gather, even the Metrosource newscasters (who were basically leased by Cumulus from Metro) are out. Apparently, Right Now Traffic has been installed in Cumulus's top 50 markets for the last year or two--except in DFW, where the Metro contract was allowed to run out before a switch was made.
Some of you may remember the much-ballyhooed move exactly 4 years ago when ABCitadel (future Cumulus) didn't re-sign with Traffic.com/NAVTEQ, and the contract went to Metro instead. Monty, Laura, Michael Scott and Randy Fuller were the only ones hired at Metro, while NAVTEQ had to lay off more than half its staff. Sadly, I'm sure the same kind of action is happening over at Total Traffic today.
