Traffic.com... Where shall we start. First of all, this is not public info but who in the hell gives a crap. All employees working for this company are silenced for obvious reasons. I DO NOT work for the company... but I am extremely on the "inside" so to speak. Lets start from the beginning.. Traffic.com Dallas was managed by the greatness that was John McCarty. Devistating to all, he passed away a year ago. Employees were supported as if it was a family unit. Asked for input. They all have to stick together. So they thought. All employees were told to "vote" on who their next leader should be. They did. The person in charge currently received ONE vote. From her daughter! The boss became the patsy. No question, and her spawn... we shall call her "daughter" from this point on, and not to be hateful we will refer to the leader as "boss".

Not one week after the change things started to change. It is like a horror movie of sorts.

Lets start with "the daughter" she is a HEAD producer. Mind you. The person in question believes she is still a small child. She lives to follow disney movies, Hansen, and Harry potter. SHE IS IN HER 20'S as far as I know. She gets paid for time off when she shouldn't. She is late on a consistent basis. No one knows because of her mommy as she says hides everything. Oh yes "boss" does. It is comical to the employees. "Daughter" goes and does as she damn well pleases knowing her mommy will fix her time card and take up for her. Apparently the girl has 25 vacation weeks a year. That must be nice. Trust me. No one likes her, nor respects her, and all laugh at the idea that she has had a job for so many years. She is lazy beyond words. YET. She still works for the company. Guess it doesn't fall far from the tree so to speak. It would take days for me to describe this human being, but I will stop there. You get the idea I am sure.

Lets get to present time. You see who and what is in charge right? Well... Looks like Metro traffic just got WBAP. Hmm.. Would McCarty let this happen? HELL NO!! The patsy in charge aka "boss" obviously would have to work more than 3 hours a day herself to really take this in to play or fight for employees. Well. As of right now. Apparently, over 12 employees for the company are being layed off. People we all know and love. People who care and who work hard. Who have devoted everything to this company. PEOPLE. It will be ignored because of economy without the truth coming out. The truth is.. Mommy and the daughter run the show. It is now and will ever be a comedy show. It is a joke. You might be a redneck if you work for traffic.com.

Holy sh*t!!! Metro got WBAP??? I thought Tyler was a smart guy... why would he go for that? What will become of Monty, Laura and Randy? Traffic.com always seemed to be solid on their coverage - especially their airborne coverage, compared to Metro's ghetto-borne piece of crap Cessnas.
Do share more info. I'm very interested.

Prob bc Metro is doing a much better job with their info and btw, their management does not suck. ;D

Okay, wait a minute -- So, assuming KRLD is still using Metro Traffic (as they have been for years), how will two competing stations employ the same traffic provider? KRLD's BIG DEAL is traffic on the 8's. That's about the only claim they can stake over WBAP. Now both competing stations are going to be using the same traffic info? Is Barton going to start sending mp3 weather reports over to Hal in the morning?

I can't see a big dog like 820 being so upset with Traffic.com to make such a dramatic change.

I can, and since Metro is an independant company, this benefits them financially. It's kind of like the discussion in another thread about the Star and the DMN using the same reporters, etc.

the thing WBAP is all the news guys are employed by Metro not by WBAP itself, so it makes sense that if they are not going to use Navtech traffic.com that they would switch to Metro

Metro works with both CBS and Citadel in LA, SFO, Washington D.C., so them doing this is no big deal.

Metro just because it is owned by Westwood One doesnt mean Metro is Exclusive to CBS Radio. Metro here in Indianapolis is on all Radio stations that take Traffic reports sans the Emmis and Clear CHannel Stations. CC does there in House and Emmis uses Traffic.com

Is the gag order over now? Boy, is there a story to tell. Once the smoke clears, I'll call Simon and Schuster and see if they want to option it. Maybe I'll write it as an afternoon soap to replace "The Guiding Light." I have plenty of time on my hands now. ::)

BTW, anyone know of about 12 job openings for me and my ex co-workers?

Did I miss something? Mike Shannon out of a job? So did traffic.com INTEND to self-destruct? RIP John McCarty.

And so we continue to see Dallas/Ft.Worth broadcasting self-destruct. This really can't be a surprise to professionals when they have to dance to the music composed by bean counters that answer not to listener trends......rather stock-holder demands. Mike, Laura, and Company.....it was good and so are you.

Thanks for the well wishes and words of support. This really sucks. But I really can't elaborate much at this time. There's still some unfinished business and some good folks that might be hurt or compromised at this point in the game. Suffice it to say for now that a change in traffic vendors was made, some agree that it was perhaps ill-thought and impulsive, but only time will tell if it all works out. Meanwhile, my company was very generous and took care of everyone involved, commeasurate with their years of service. Switching companies for me would have involved a 33% paycut, so that was a poor option for nearly everyone. So we'll join the rest of the radio folks that are on the beach, and seek out something more stable and financially advantageous, which will likely be outside of the industry. But contrary to the post that started this thread, Traffic.com was one of the best jobs I ever had, and was six years of my life well spent. It remains a classy operation, and had some of radio's best pass through its doors during the time I was there. If things change in the future, I'd go back in a heartbeat. There was a sense of family and teamwork that you'd be hard pressed to find elsewhere in radio today. THAT'S the part I'll miss the most.

Mike,

Very classy. Good luck to you and everyone involved. I hope everyone finds work sooner rather than later.
