Traffic Reporter Keith Kalland

This Nov/Dec 2007,(I cannot remember the exact date) it willl be 5 years since Keith Kalland died. I always enjoyed hearing him report on the traffic here in the Atlanta area. Let me go toss the obligatory ladder onto the interstate in his memory :)

Wow, has it been that long? I thought Keith Kalland was great. He had a unique style and worked very well with the on air talent at GST and 96. He could get me to crack a smile while stuck in a traffic jam, which is not an easy thing to do.

RIP Keith Kalland

A friend of mine was the one that first gave Keith a Thesaurus, which ignited the expanded vocabulary that he was known for. My world was richer when Keith was doing traffic.

Five years...geez. IMHO Keith was the best traffic reporter Atlanta has ever had. He was entertaining, enlightening and most importantly he was informative. I had the honor of working with him for a few years and will never forget his kindness and his great sense of humor. A couple of years ago I was involved in bad accident on Keith Kalland Memorial Highway. It was not the ubiquitous ladder in the roadway that caused the accident. It was a teen ager hell bent on turning left on red. Thankfully, I was not hurt but the teen who caused the accident and her brother were injured. The Conyers Police were most professional and helpful in sorting out the mess left by three wrecked cars. It took six months for the case to wind its way through the courts but the teen was finally found guilty, fined and placed on probation. I couldn't help but think of how Keith would have reported the wreck and how proud he would have been of his hometown PD.

He was excellent... I wish he would make Mark Arum and the other guys slow down talking at WSB. It sometimes sounds like a foreign language. It is very annoying.

Did he invent the phrase "Car-Be-Que" for a car fire? If so, it was hysterical. If you really wanna honor Keith, get your cholesterol checked, stop eating fried foods and walk at least one mile every day.

Every time I see a Gwinnett Co. tag I think of him talking about the Gwinnetians!

Stick a fork in it, I'm done.

And never very thorough or informative. Keith is missed immensely in this market!!

Keith also did the traffic reports on Fox 5 from 1997 until his death. I enjoyed watching him banter with the Good Day crew in the mornings. It was unfortunant that a heart attack took him away so soon.

I thought Art Mehring coined that phrase when he was on "ZEE" 93 (if anything, I miss that the most, for some odd reason). Every now and again, he'll say it again. Because of them, car-be-cue is part of my vocabulary now.

This goes to show that great radio personalities supercede anything else. You barely remember the jingles, the imaging, you'd forget the music if it wasn't drilled into your brain, but great personalities will always be remembered.

He always made me laugh when he called people out for their stupid driving.

Coming from this traffic reporter- Kalland was a great reporter. To me, he was THE best in the business. We all miss him... well, almost all traffic reporters.

RIP, Keith...
