Traffic reporter, Mike Nolan, in serious condition after plane crash

But has non life-threatening injuries. Another passenger in plane
Crash happened near the Corona Airport around 630p.
Nolan owns the single-engine plane.
 
I heard his report (including technical glitches) at 3:45, and thought "oh cool, he's up in the plane!" I know he's only "in the sky" out of the goodness of his heart, and passion for the job. A rarity in today's radio.

The news at ten, right after Aron Bender read that eerie blog post of the woman shot in Aurora already had me on edge a bit, and then the news Mike had crash really made my stomach drop. I'm very glad his injuries are not life threatening and I hope he and his passenger make a full recovery.

With the plane wrecked, though, I bet we never hear "KFI in the Sky" ever again. :(
 
Part of Mike's deal was to go up once a month. Mainly to keep up his skills and to make sure everything worked when it was needed, for days when there's a major story, brush-fires, things of that nature that he would go up to cover. All of Mike's friends are praying for his and his nephew's quick and full recovery.
 
Update: He suffered a broken collar bone, 2 cracked ribs, and some cuts, according to KFI brand manager Neil Saavedra. Nolan was piloting his own plane, a Cessna 182P, and reporting traffic for KFI, when an engine malfunction shortly caused the plane to clip some power lines near Corona and crash. Following the crash, Mike and his passenger, nephew of KOST program director Stella Prado, escaped before the plane burst into flames. The young man suffered cuts to his face but Saavedra had no further status of any injuries at this time. Mike and his passenger both spent the night at Riverside Community Hospital but should be released today.
 
Thanks for the update Bug, I found out today that it was Stella's nephew and not Mike's. This crash brought back some bad memories and I'm just so relieved to know that they'll be okay.
 
TCJ said Nolan wouldn't do an interview with him, but aired audio from a CBS interview.

Nolan is EXTREMELY lucky he and his passenger are alive and lived to talk about it! It'll be interesting to see if he ever pilots a plane again.

A little update here. The plane did not "burst" into flames. The downed power lines cause the dry grass in the area to catch fire and it slowly moved its way to the airplane which slowly caught fire.
