Traffic Reporter Question

Hi -

I'm currently a full time traffic reporter for Shadow/Metro (a Westwood One company) in the NYC market.

On the NAB's website, Clear Channel has a help wanted ad for a traffic reporter/producer for their cluster in Louisville. I was wondering if anyone has had experience with them; if they seem stable in the market, offer competative salaries, etc. Y'know, the inside radio scoop. I thought I'd ask here first before I started checking spot rates, putting a T&R together, and otherwise making an effort ;)

Anyway, thanks very much for thoughts you might have on this. I appreciate any and all input!

Tom :)

I am just curious why would you like to leave a awesome city like new york to come to louisville? Louisville is what it is and is much cheaper cost of living and if you have a family i can understand it. But i love nyc!!!

Clear Channel Louisville is a great place to work if you like doing the job of 3 people for the pay of half a person. But don't just go by what I say. ;D

This poster has to be a fraud to even consider this! First, Metro pays a whole lot more than Clear Channel. 2nd you want to leave market 1 for market 54!!! What is the link to that website you found this?

I agree

Lol...ok, I had a funny feeling some here would be incredulous by my question.

No, I'm not a "fraud". But I am married. My wife, who's from Kansas City, has family scattered around the midwest and often pines because she's too far to visit them. I thought that if things like salary:cost of living were anywhere what they are here, I might consider it for her sake. I do love being on-air in Market1, especially since I'm part of a popular morning show that gives me name recognition. And yes, the salary is pretty good (AFTRA shop). But I've been on-air here since '89. I love NYC and surrounding environs, but a change after all this time might not be the worst thing, assuming I could keep the same quality of life. Besides - I love bourbon ;D

BTW, I found the ad at: http://www.careerpage.org/search.php , the site for The National Alliance of State Broadcasters Associations (I originally posted that I saw the ad in the NAB classifieds - sorry for the confusion, I was looking at both sites and got them confused). I see that CC has pulled the ad just in the past 24 hours though, so perhaps they've found someone and all this is a moot point.

Thanks to everyone who answered. Sounds like I probably would not have liked the gig anyway - out here we call CC "Cheap Channel". Guess they carry that moniker with them to every market they infiltrate.

All the best in your own gigs,

Tom
