Traffic reports on WHAS/Clear Channel

Did Clear Channel cut their traffic department in Louisville? I just heard Dave Armbruster from WLW giving a traffic report.

He's a busy guy cause he's listed as the "HEAD HONCHO FOR REDS, BENGALS, BEARCATS, MUSKETEERS NETWORKS
DAVE ARMBRUSTER-Director of Sports Programming" too!

Pretty much. Where they used to have a chopper and a couple of reporters, they now have a guy sitting at a computer screen looking at the trimarc.org website. Now it appears that the "guy", isn't even in Louisville anymore.

Well at least they still have local news anchors.

Maybe. I have heard the same anchors on Lexington, Nashville and Cincinnati stations.

Yeah because they are on Bishop Ln. Louisville is one of the "news hubs".
Where does it end? With the sales staff playing the i-pods? Or maybe the listeners?

well at the rate there phasing out local news centers in smaller markets for News Hubs. and cutting down on DJ's as is im surprise dont dont regional sports talk & News Talk Stations yet oh wait they just phase it down on the news talkers and sports talker to its one or 2 local shows and the rest is network or Syndicated shows

What they don't seem to be getting, is that yea, they are saving money but the service keeps going down hill. Yesterday morning they reported a lane closure at 71 southbound at the Buckner exit 14. Like an idiot I got on 71 anyway about 10:30 to come in town. The last traffic report I heard just before 1 was still reporting the lane closure on 71 with traffic backed up several miles. Problem was, there was no lane closure! I breezed through exit 14 with no problems.

Honestly, why would anyone depend on WHAS anymore for anything anymore? I learned long time ago that the saying "when news breaks out, we break in" is only valid during normal business hours.

Maybe the new slogan should be, "If it's happening in Kentuckiana- it's news to us!" :D

Best traffic info in Louisville is on WFPK 91.9.

Does WFPK do its own reports or do they Get them From Metro Traffic

If they get the Reports from Metro. i believe those reports are coming out of Atlanta GA
Can anyone remember the helicopter traffic reporters that have been in Louisville? I think Dick Gilbert was the one with the longest tenure, with Mark Travis, Ron Roberts, and Captain Larry Grant following at WHAS. Did Captain Dick Tong work for WAVE too in the 1970s?

I have not read the book, but Dick Gilbert's biography, "Just My Luck!" is available for purchase, with proceeds going to support his foundation. More information is available at http://www.gilbertfoundation.org/book_information.php

Metz says, "Dick Gilbert's life reads like a chapter out of "Indiana Jones"-adventurous, funny and brave."

I don't where WFPK gets their traffic from; but from my personal experience their info is more accurate and timely than Total Traffic. There is always quite a delay on Total Traffic. Shoot I can look the info myself on my iphone before I hear it on Total.

They get their reports from Metro's website.

The lady who does traffic in the morning for WVEZ is very good. My only critical comment is that she refuses to use words like "crash" or "wreck" to describe an accident. She always uses "collision" instead. She's VERY good though.

I have noticed another new voice doing afternoon traffic on WHAS. He goes by the name Brian Pitts.... That wouldn't be Earl's grandson by chance????? The only problem is that he speaks with a typical mid-western accent and not one of southern Mississippi. Must be be from Pearl's side of the family. I heard a few of them escaped the grip of the family's tradition to get an edu-cation.

No one on Earl's side of the family ever ran away to learn to read and 'rite and they turned out 'ceptable. Pitts OFF

I'm not sure if Brian is related to Earl, but he is a WLW guy. I couldn't find any traffic reports with Earl, but this one does mention driver's licenses:

BTW, Amen Earl!
