Traffic Pulse, Metro, Clear channel traffic(Formerly Total Traffic)

Metro for a while had lousy reporting overall, but lately they seem to have gotten it together, especially on the much travelled weekends. Johnathon Hayes recently added to the KLUV morning show is refreshing, with Ben Laurie in the afternoons KLUV has stepped up to good traffic reporting. KRLD still needs to fix things with their morning traffic anchors. They are not that accurate, plus boring.

Traffic Pulse has slipped. Their evening weekend traffic reporter has missed freeway closures, construction, and several major accidents. When you call him, he sounds like you are annoying him according to one source who happens to work at one of their client stations.Their weekend overnight anchor is on the ball,so there is satisfaction there.I understand one producer has her daughter working there but instead of working ,she's on the "instant chats",so someone has to "cover"for her in obtaining information. In other words do "her"work for "her" Management has heard from several people but chooses to look the other way. Nepotism? Not good. One chopper reporter barely shows up on time for take off if at all, plus there is Alexa:(.

CC Traffic. They sound like they listen to their competitors reports and copy them. The information is usually several minutes old.

KTFW does their own traffic reports by calling and using the scanner. The reports are concise and accurate.

Don't know which service it is but the KSKY traffic people are terrible. I make it a point to switch from KSKY to WBAP on the eights to get the traffic, then switch back. Not only are the reporters un-interesting, most of the time their information is 30 minutes old.

Come to think of it the KSKY news team is not up to par with the syndicated shows either. Their afternoon news sounds like NPR from the 70's

I don't know how it is at some of the other stations, I only know of a very few that do traffic on the weekends, but when I was at 990 they were only allowed 30 seconds to do traffic. On busy days there was no way those guys could get everything plus the sponsor into one report. So they had to alternate or cherry-pick the stuff to report. At the more established well-run stations, it's probably 30 seconds or less as well.

Another example of keeping the revenue stream flowing at all costs. There's no concern that the actual traffic report is compressed into a practically useless 30-second time frame. What's important to the bean counters is that the station has sold a sponsor a "traffic report," regardless of whether it contains any useful information, squeezed as it is into the blink of an eye. So reports take on the form of, "There're wrecks on LBJ caused by cars running into each other. And that's traffic." Can't devote any time to information of substance--have to get on to the next commercial.

On my way home today I popped on KVIL to see if they were still stunting Christmas music. They weren't, but I did hear that their legal freakin ID was sponsored and it wasn't that AOL for Broadband trade, either. It was a local client. Sponsoring your legal? Desperate for cash much?

Agreed. I remember when the airborn traffic reporters on KRLD, BAP, KVIL, KPLX all did more than traffic. They chatted with the jocks/anchors. Sometimes they even did a play-by-play when it came to police chases, fires and other news items. Now it's :30 and get the hell off, and substance has nothing to do with it.

Remember in the 80s the KVIL copter spotted and followed a criminal suspect and helped guide police to the location. For a while, traffic took second place. It could happen again someday--if there's a sponsor and it can be done in a half minute or less.

Now, sponsored IDs? What's next--selling dead air, perhaps.

1) Since I do not drive in Dallas/Fort Worth most of the time, traffic is of little interest to me. I did enjoy it more when the guys the copter carried on with the DJ's back at the station.

2) On a couple of stations I wonder if they don't just listen to the other guys reports and then turn on the buzz fan and give a report of their own.

NO!! Don't say that! The Infinity cluster sales department has run out of things to sponsor on the RMS. Now they'll want to start selling sponsors on his lengthy pauses.

Good point. You know, If I were unemployed and not in the lab everyday, I'd ad up all the dead air during his show and post it on here. I bet if you combine all the pauses it's gotta be at least a half hour! If you ran his show through a cashbox (digital talk radio time compresion box)It would be only 3 hours.<P ID="signature">______________

Can you have personality if no one can understand what you are saying :)?

Maybe he passed the audition by answering "yes" to the question, "Can you make noises with your face?"

Maybe they got more scanners so they can listen to
Traffic.Com. Seems like a likely situation. They already
listen to them for most of their information. I know for a
fact one of their two ways is parked on the 'BAP channel,
or at least it used to be.

Maybe to you. I think Tatoo Boy needs a bath. Wonder if
he'll keep that ego in check this time around.

> KRLD still needs to fix things with their morning traffic

KRLD needs to fix ALOT of things, not just traffic. Jennifer
Ellis can't be as prissy and talk condescending to commuters
now because frankly, she doesn't have the time anymore with all
the syndicated crap. The traffic "mother hen prude princess" has
a few dents in her crown.

Speaking from someone (YOU) who is obviously inside the
organization, well I'm sure you're an expert, and a complainy
bitch at that. I'm sure you have oodles and oodles of years of
working in news and traffic to compare it to as well. By the
way, I think that evening and fill in guy Mike Shannon sucks.
Of course, he'd tell you and everyone that'd listen he's
overworked and needs a vacation.

I'm glad you're listening to those accurate traffic reports on
a practically unrated station. You're probably the only one.

Would you believe it if I told you he's one some awards? He won a Texas music award for "Best DJ" or something like that....comments?
