Train Wreck contest crash

The KMX cash contest is to layer 5 songs on top of each other and the winner gets the accumulated prize pool which increases $50 with each incorrect guesser. Guy wins this morning. As they are closing the show today they invite a listener to close it with them and sing the beer run song, to do it they will let the first listener who can say how much the guy won this morning.

A lady calls and says the winner won $700, and Kelly asks if she wants to help close the show and she says yes but first she has a question, (paraphrasing) "Why didn't the guy before win because he had the actual title, Baby One More Time?" and both DJ's say that the name of the song is Hit Me Baby One More Time but the lady says, "if you type in a song search for Hit Me Baby One More Time nothing comes up but if you type in Baby One More Time the screen comes up with Brittney Spears and that is the name of the song on the album". Jocks say no its not its Hit Me Baby One More Time. The listener then questions them about the fairness of the contest etc etc. Kelly says she's (Kelly) the official complainer and asks the lady if she wants to close the show.

CRASH!

Can we say Lawsuit ? Possibly if they don't give the guy the money.

Come on Kelly you need to do your homework on contest before you air them.
The album that the song is on Is actually the title tack.
Maybe if you used an actual service instead of putting Illegal Mp3 Downloads on the air then you would see the correct name of the song.

Something else I've noticed with Galore is that she has a tendacy to say unnecessary & inappropriate things in COMMERCIALS. Two examples:

1.) Some commercial with some type of printing company in Dothan. Kelly and the woman from the store go back and forth talking about the business. Galore trying to be humorous makes a comment something to the effect of how the Store Owner doesn't do things for KMX till the last minute. Well it's not too big a deal I don't guess because the woman laughs with her about it, But you have to question how smart both of them are, you DO NOT EVER MAKE NEGATIVE COMMENTS ABOUT AN ADVERTISER IN A COMMERCIAL... NOT EVEN JOKINGLY! and if anyone at tragic knew what they were doing they would have advised the store owner that even though it may seem humorous that negative connations about her business in her commercial are in no way beneficial.

2.)Another commercial I believe it's Gilland Mitsubishi (Not %100 sure most of the commercial was not memorable) but it was some Mitsubishi dealer. Anyhow Galore starts off the ad with something about her and her friend both bought cars from the mitsubishi dealer. Then she ads in a comment that was I guess intended to seem off-handed and funny or whatever ::)... remember this is after she said her and her friend bought cars there....(paraphrasing) " Of course I didn't really have a choice because I wrecked my Mercedes" First of all you don't act like IN A COMMERCIAL that you HAD to buy from them..you act like you WANTED to buy from them. Secondly you NEVER EVER EVER...mention a brand other than the one your advertising..EVER..unless your comparing the two. Finally....Kelly NOBODY CARES THAT YOU WRECKED YOUR CAR..NOBODY.

It's just another Tragic Tragic story.

Taken from wkmx.com..."YOU MUST NAME ALL 5 CORRECT TITLES AND CORRECT ARTISTS IN THE AMOUNT OF TIME GIVEN." on the rules of the Kash Mash. So anybody who guessed the right title, and not Kelly's opion of the title, should win! Plus when you have a 40something guy tring to siund like he is 20 something and a princess who can never be wrong what can you expect? On a side note also found on their website is a misspelling under the kash mash.

All this on the heels and almost coming to blows between 2 employees at the nutfest...wonder how many more embarassments can happen before someone is shown the door?

I would ask to see the contest rules. If it's written precisely as it says on the website, they're not going to have much of a choice but to either give both callers the cash or perhaps face a small claims case from one or the other.

What happend fill me in

All of us will mess something up every now and then but it is certainly embarrasing to be corrected unexpectedly LIVE on the air by a listener that is more informed about the music than you are. Certainly there should have been more homework done on the correct song names and to avoid these situations in the future RECORD ALL CALLS (please refer to the obscure manuel Wiregrass Radio 101 by headlandradio not his best seller The Book of Magic). In the 33 year history of the leading promotional force in the (well maybe, just maybe) Southeast, this is the first time that in less than 4 minutes the fairness/credibility/knowledge of the station as percieved by the public has been made so publically questionable; because the 'Old Guard' didn't allow this kind of catastrophie LIVE ON AIR. These few minutes could have possibly been most illuminating concerning the 'new kmx'. Well no, I forget that the 'Old' guys never sang the "Beer Run Song" with a listener to say good bye at 10 am once not to mention frequently.

A few ironic things; first that all this has occured surrounding a Britney Spears song is just perfect, second that the very last truly 'Old Guard KMXer' exited the building acouple of weeks ago. It took them longer than I thought it would. Maybe know the new kmx people will realize that they had been positively influenced by John Houston and didn't even realize it. Yes, John is that good. His voice work can still be heard in promos and spot on all five stations and really shines compared to all the rest because you hear it less and less....oh yeah, except on My 103.9 where his imaging and liners still dominate. But now you all should realize that as talented as his vocal are, how quick his wit and writing is, that maybe his positive movement of people without their knowledge is more important to an organization. KMX can now really be referred to as gone....only the lower case call letters continue. A definate magic trick of smoke and mirrors. Third, and most sad is that this happens the same week when the 'Old Guard' suffers horrific loss and cry repeatedly because of their love for the very first employee of KMX. After three years since the sale this faux paux on the air today is simply hillarious to the 'Old Guard'.

The best thing kmx can do is to humble themselves on the air profusely Monday morning and give the first correct guesser $700 AS WELL. Can't take away what's already been awarded whether done rightly or wrongly. But man oh man, I wonder how many people are going to call and claim they had it right but were told no, or that THEY were the prior guesser that got it right? Doubt they recorded ALL of the callers as should've been done so they won't have anything to defend themselves with so $700 + $700 +?????? = $$$$$$.

I do feel bad for the Princess. Wheels and cogs within the Queens crown are working out the most effective method of dismissal as an example to her shrinking number of subjects. Her excuse was given to her today, served on a Guilded Sterling Silver Radio Wave (Book of Magic, Ch.6 vervse__, sorry headland need some help).

Another line from an Elton John song comes forth within my brow; "It's sad, so sad, why don't we talk it over, but sorry seems to be the hardest word".

Stewy, still sad ..... we love ya Freddie.

At nutfest, Tragic had 1 radio, and all the stations were rotating playtime in 15 minute intervals. Well one night 95.5 was out there for a remote and when their 15 minutes were up the jock got upset when, another employee changed to the other station. They thought they would solve problem by yelling at each other and shoving each other around. Finally someone got between them and they played nicely the rest of the night.

Let's not forget that KMX is in the process of hiring a new PD. Hopefully that person can come in there and help set the station back in the right direction.

I would also that this is a perfect example of why you should either A) Never take live calls, particularly in this day and age of the industry or B) Have - and use - a delay unit set to a minimum of :10. The fact that the jocks were wrong in the title of the song being irrelevant for just a minute, the public embarassment on the air during their show could have been avoided by a simple punch of the dump button. Sure, there would have been things to deal with off-air, but at least the entire incident wouldn't have played out for the entire listening audience to hear.

This is a perfect example of why you ALWAYS record callers, then play them back after editing (if needed). NEVER put a caller on the air live. I can't believe there are actually stations still doing that! I thought for sure those days were well in the past. LOL Sounds like an investment in Cool Edit would be a good idea! That is a HUGE embarrassment to that station. The contest is now flawed, and a listener just made it sound like the station is totally incompetent about their own music they play!

Oh, and the post about the commercials is hilarious. I would have thought the same thing had I heard that! Someone needs to go to radio 101 class! That's just like never talking over vocals and never mentioning your competition on the air by name. It's just common sence radio! LOL what a joke!

To add to it Roxy, one has recently decided to go to greener pastures...and here I must humble myself and ask forgiveness for I forgot to mention this person the post just above. This individual was a 'Part Time Old Guard KMXer'. Understand that when your move with foxes there is green to be found in their fields. I wish him the best and all he needs do is call if I may help him now. "For though he was gently spurned before his wounds carry the witness of Wisdom learned in difficult circumstances", Book of Magic, chapter 8, verse 7.

There is an important lesson to be learned here. All contest calls should be recorded and played back on the air what happend today was a great example
There are also many other reasons why such as legal reasons that can protect you from listeners especially in cash give-a-ways.
Also the the listener that was right to begin with should be given the $$$ . It's called doing the right thing admiting your wrong
Listeners should never be made in front of on the air.

Welcome South Rolltide. Cool Edit was the tool of choice for the 'Old Guard KMXers' and was still used even after Styles bought it though they had to fight to keep it. But, now that the last "Old Guard' is out of the building....well shoot, there hasn't been a jock of that ilk on that board since John and Kelly didn't mess and he was forced to 103.9 over a year ago. So Cool Edit either hasn't worked or has had any one who could work it for a long time. Surely it wasn't being used out of laziness.

kmx is the only one in this market dumb enough to air live calls . 7 second delay or not it's called lazy and lack of mgmt.

Yes, Peanut Capitol, a great point. And this will could all work well for the Queen because presented as such, coupled with the fact that Trent is still so new that he's in the "probationary" period of his employment, gives the corporate management excuse to make themselves happy and just eliminate two salaries. I'd guess that'll equall about one month or maybe one and one-half month's worth of gross cash billing saved. I hope that we see forgiveness instead of financial efficiency.

Not from the Book of Magic, but rather the Moody Blues:

"Breathe deep, the gathering gloom
watch lights fade from every room
Echos the hallows that becon lament
another day's useless penny is spent.

Empassioned lovers wrestle as one
lonely men cry for love and have none.
New mother picks up and sucles her son
senior citizens wish they were young.

Cold hearted Orb which rules the night
removes the colors from our sight.
Red is gray and yellow white
but we decide which is right....

and which is an illusion".

Let me guess it had something to do with Miss Goober Pollard and The Other queen in the building Kelly
