NYC radio & TV stations seemed slow gettting on the air live from the scene of
the train wreck this morning in the Bronx.,
maybe stations have a smalll news staff on duty early sunday morning. ( & on a
holiday weekend).
Jimmy part of the problem is they are so close to the water, and those idiot environmentalists wont let them upgrade the track in that area....so maybe a few deaths will motivate them to overlook the wetlands....ya think?
Maybe if the laws were followed, no one would have died. There's no way that a train goes through a 30 MPH zone going 82 MPH even with bad brakes. Why is it that no one was contacted telling others that he was having equipment problems. Trains have radios, yet no one was alerted. Don't blame environmentalists for this accident. They had nothing to do with any of this.

When I got to work at 7 AM On Sunday morning there were not only local radio reporters on scene but television was there and we at network radio had a reporter on scene. I can't speak for others but I saw no lack of coverage.
It's actually amazing that in 2013 the data/connectivity/dispatching/safety system doesn't automatically continuously tell the loco what the max limit is at every point on the track, minute by minute as conditions may change.
I have endured some major train delays and can't gripe in retrospect.
I'd rather sit still on a train or run slow if an auto speed governor didn't work right, than fly off a curve for whatever reason.
Yeah 82 is way illegal.....he could have had a heart attack or stroke and froze.....or a runaway train......I think we would all hang him by his.....if he was texting or watching porn on his iphone.
Actually i heard it could be upgraded to at at least 50mph or more, banked track concrete pilings... but its wetlands all of maybe 50-100 feet......they have had other accidents there mostly freight trains....its too tight a corner
