Sure, I'll be happy to answer this question and it dovetails to training.
Frankly the Red Sox Radio "Network" is not the tightest run network around.
Perhaps they are caught up in the excitement of the game... but with
astonishing regularity, they have proven to be quite "forgetful".
WTIC master control ops are trained to and run the facility with a
50kW heritage station mindset...which simply means such legal obligations as our antenna switch, EAS (etc) and top of the hour legals are viewed with utmost seriousness and attention. I think you will be hard pressed to hear WTIC-AM miss a legal in any given calendar year. (now the FM is another story!)
So our master ops, at their discretion, will oft times overlay a quick "WTIC-HARTFORD" short legal ID at the TOH even if joe and gerry are still discussing the previous play, because we simply cannot depend on the Sox to meet our basic standards for timeliness. (We are not talking always about a few minutes here and there, sometimes the sox wont toss to a legal station break for ungodly, unbelievably long times after the TOH has passed and theres nothing important happening)unfortunately this does result in stepping on announcers which is NOT our first choice. But in the larger scope, we'd rather be legal and maintain good operator status in the eyes of the FCC.
We run the sox. not the other way around.
Hope this answers your question.
