Transforming the DSPXmini-FM

I listened on a pair of decent Klipsch computer monitors with a sub.

The improvement of the low/mid bass definition was immediately apparent with the changes. I though the high frequency content was well controlled and everything sounded polished.

Audio production folks need to hear this, it sort of drives home the point that keeping the source material clean is really important. It's a shame in our plug-in processing world today (I'm guilty too) that we tend to grab for the fad.

This is great proof that less is more.

Goran, are there less aggressive presets on the box, particular for talk oriented applications?

Well, that was the goal, so I'm glad to hear it's apparent :)

An age old rule that unfortunately seems to escape a lot of people adjusting processors these days! :(

Yes, of course. There's a Talk preset specifically designed for talk programming and clean and intelligible speech, but there are other less aggressive and more conservative presets as well.

While I was at BW, we created a part of the website for people to exchange presets for the processors, give comments and rate them. Unfortunately there seems not a lot of users submitted their presets for the DSPXmini-FM SE yet. Nevertheless, this is a service where one can potentially acquire even more presets than the factory ones available in the box.

I remember while visiting BW and have the whole rack with for instance a 8500, O6 and DSPXtreme at my disposal find myself listening to the (back than just new) mini-SE for most of the time. So when you don't take just on-air loudness in to account but also soundtexture this mini-SE sounds large between the big boys.

The DSPX Mini AM is also a great box. I have one on in Philadelphia and it's kicking serious ass there. My 1 kW sounds like it's had a power increase to 5 kW and it's at least 4 db louder then 1060 and 2 db louder then 1210 (both 50 kW class A stations)-and a LOT cleaner too! My station can also do something that the others seem to not be able to do-have bass and highs at the same time!
