Another thing I did while I was in town was looked at some of the translators and compared with Radio-Locator. There seem to be quite a few discrepancies:

94.5 Radio-Locator says KRKE. Actually silent. Not even the pirate (but I may ahhave been out of range).

89.9 Radio-Locator says KIVA. Actually religious.

102.9 Radio-Locator says KKIM, Actually still KHFM.

So what gives. Is Radio-Locator way ahead of the curve or have they been badly spoofed?
 
I can't speak for all of them, but 89.9 is in the process of being purchased by Don Davis and will be relaying KIVA. It can't, however, relay KIVA until it gets off of 89.9. I can't remember exactly where it's going, but it's not staying there.

Radio-Locator goes by applications, and, sometimes, applications to change a translator's owner will be granted by the FCC but not yet consummated. Radio-Locator has no way of knowing exactly when the change takes place. That's probably what's going on with 94.5 and 89.9.

That's also a possibility with 102.9. I'm almost thinking AGM can't own it while rebroadcasting KHFM for signal contour overlap reasons and that a classical/arts group owns it and is in the process of assigning it to AGM. However, I can't tell you for certain that's going on.
 
Re: Translators - here's a once in a lifetime deal! Who's going to step up?

Our non profit organization, Tixs for Kids, has decided to sell our FM Radio Station. The station currently runs an Oldies format that we call Eagle 98 and it can be heard on 98.1 FM in Albuquerque and 98.7 FM in Belen.

We have been working for the past couple of weeks to get everything back in shape. The station has a new transmitter, wires, connectors, filters, etc.. With the exception of a few minor things, we are just about done.

Currently the monthly overhead to operate the station is less than $500.

Below are the coverage maps and attached is a flyer that we sending out to interested parties.

Total price for the radio station and the translator is $799,000.

The station originates in Belen. It is picked up on Sandia Crest by a translator and with that we have a coverage area that includes Albuquerque, Los Lunas, Belen, Bernalillo and Rio Rancho. We also have translators in Socorro, T or C and Ruidoso. Socorro and T or C are built. Ruidoso has not been built. So with everything operating we cover a good part of the state going south. Those translators are also negotiable.

Don't know if you were serious or not, but, no, Tixs for Kids isn't Don Davis.

However, I can't imagine anyone spending almost $800,000 for an LPFM, which is required to be non-commercial, and a translator, even if it covers Albuquerque well. I'd think even $100,000 would be too high.

Actually, I am pretty sure it is ILLEGAL to sell a LPFM in this manor. The way I remember the rules; you could only have a transfer of control via re-electing board members. Ie., KXXX Old Board to KXXX New Board. Also admitting an LPFM owns and operates translators could be an issue as well. I am not a lawyer so legal counsel would need to be consulted, but if memory serves, and admitdly sometimes it does fail me, this entire post could cause serious issues with the licensee if the poster is indeed involved with the station at hand. I have to beleve they are since they have a domain email that belongs to the entity.

Don Davis is not ABQRADIO and is an outstanding operator! I really miss being around him.

I am sure with translators in similar markets selling for less then 30,000 dollars and an LPFM that cannot be sold this MUST be a joke.
 
I'm pretty sure you can sell an LPFM so long as it's to another local non-profit entity. There may also be some restrictions as to how much you can sell it for, but I don't know. One of the contributors to some of the Texas boards owned an LPFM and sold it to a local church when he got a full-power signal.

I can't say how the translators factor in. I know a non-profit can own translators outside its primary coverage area, but it still has to feed them over-the-air if they're in the commercial part of the band.
