Transmitter Fire Takes Out 2 Ogdensburg/Brockville Stations

I thought something was up, when I flipped through 96.7 (normally I'm not a Yes FM guy) on Sunday afternoon and caught the ID for "Wolf 105.1". Oswego NY's WWLF-FM 96.7, is a repeater of WOLF 105.1.

On 98.7, I should be able to pull in CJHR, 'Valley Heritage Radio'.

Update: Heard this afternoon, heading in and out of Brockville ON, from my perch about 10 miles north of town~>

96.7 - CHVR 'Star 96' Pembroke ON (90 mi/147 km)
CHYM Kitchener ON (260 mi/419 km !) (matched Barenaked Ladies rendition of 'Lovers In A Dangerous Time', with playlist on CHYM's website. From here
at home I've picked up CHYM on my G8 once, but this the first on my car radio)

98.7 - CJHR 'Valley Heritage Radio' Renfrew ON (62 mi/101 km)
WLZW 'Lite 98.7' Rome NY (115 mi/185 km) (ID bottom of the hour @ 4:30 pm...earlier I heard Burl Ives sneaking in...)
CBC Radio 1 (Probable 19 kW CBCP, Peterborough ON (126 mi/203 km), although 100 KW CBCB Owen Sound (253 mi/408 km), shares frequency).

Nice catches especially the Kitchener one. During summer tropo I usually hear CBCP on 98.7 and sometimes it totally wipes out Pac 98.7 when tropo is strong enough. Now I've been hearing them along with WLZW. On 96.7 I've been hearing The Wolf every time I check. I'll have to try for CHVR which is also country. I can easily get Ottawa stations here even with the slightest tropo, but Pembroke seems to be much harder to receive. Perhaps its just the geography of the area.

They should be notifying the FCC soon as its now been 10 days since they went off the air. They keep saying on their Facebook page they will be back on the air soon, but I think it may take a while to get the transmitter site rebuilt and setup. The FCC documentation should give us more detail on when they plan on being back on air.

RE the CHYM snag, this is where CanCon get's a thumbs up. Any other song, would've been much more of a challenge, when searching prospective playlists. But a Canadian band, covering a Bruce Cockburn tune? It was pretty easy to track that down, when I got home!

I'm not a techy, but the topography of the Pembroke area, could make it more of a challenge. CHVR is a 100 kW station, so you'd think it would make the trip into the Watertown area, quite often.

I'll have to check again, I can usually get the Wolf on 105.1 so it should be easy to tell what country station I'm getting on 96.7. I've always had YES-FM between my location and Pembroke so maybe now it will be easier to log.

I've been able to get 97.7 Bancroft and 107.7 Anprior several times. And once I had North Bay stations coming in like locals back before I really got into dxing.

Besides Bancroft's CHMS, I get regular visits from CHOM (Montreal QC) and CHTZ (St Catharines ON) on 97.7, while on 107.7 CKHK (Hawkesbury ON) and WLKK (Buffalo NY) share the frequency with Arnprior's CHMY-1. You know spunker, there's more than just the natural beauty, to like about our 1000 Islands region, eh? :D

Presumed CHYM again today, on 96.7. Caught an advertisement for 'TA Appliances', with locations mentioned for Kitchener, Brantford and Barrie ON.

Looks like WYSX is now back on the air. They aren't as strong as usual so I'm guessing they are running lower power. 98.7 is still off the air, or running power so low I can't get it here.

Indeed, WYSX has returned...which is kind of too bad, as I've been enjoying the CHYM visits. This morning I was pulling in a nice (at times static free) stretch from them, though their playlist isn't my cup of tea. Now...if WTOJ had an outage and CFMX roll in, I'd be a happy camper. ;D
