Transmitter Site Break In

Sometime Friday in broad daylight someone broke into the transmitter site for Maryland Media One's WXJX 910 Apollo, PA . No idea if anything was taken or damaged, but this was confirmed to have occurred by station owner Steve Clendenin who posted about it.

What makes this even more ballsy is that there is local, staffed police department not even a block away!!

This was probably just some idiot common criminal looking for anything they could steal. On the other hand, it would have been absolutely hilarious if they had tried to climb the AM Tower.🍳 It's really too bad they didn't. In case you couldn't tell, I hate criminals.

Someone broke into the building containing WHKO, Dayton's transmitter, loaded a bunch of old fax machines and miscellaneous stuff into a vehicle. The miscreants managed to pull a plug on a processor, taking the station off the air, apparently for several hours. The media (including co-owned radio and TV stations) reported that someone had "stolen the transmitter". I had visions of the K99.1 FM transmitter on a flatbed truck heading down Far Hills Avenue headed for the scrapyard, but no, only fax machines with WHIO stickers.

It's actually not that hard to break into that building, because it's falling apart. However, it would have to have been at night, because it's at the end of a lane in a residential neighborhood, and the neighbors keep an eye on it during the day. If they see someone up there snooping around, they'll ask you what business you have there.

That's in the Gettysburg/Germantown tower field along with channel 7. It was at night I believe. You may be thinking the WHIO AM transmitter on David Rd?
