Transparent Box going into spots on SNL

Hey, at 12:27pm I've been noticing an a brief empty outline of a box going into each network break on SNL (which is live tongiht, 4/15/06). Is anyone else noticing this? Does it have something to do with the Widescreen format?

Is it the same people who supply us with that mysterious thin green bar you always see between Leno and Conan on weeknights? :)
______________

Wasn't the green bar mystery solved here a
few months back?

IIRC, it's a network origination switch between
Burbank and New York--although I wonder with frame
synchronizers, et al, why it wouldn't be a clean
switch.

Apparently since Leno tapes in Burbank around
5:00pm PT, it's not backhauled live to 30 Rock
for later airing. Any editing, bleeping, etc.,
is done on the left coast and the program aired
from Burbank at 8:34:30pm PT for the ET/CT feed.

What I don't know is which facility originates
the MT and PT feeds of Leno. Anyone? Bueller?

And, getting back to the subject...

Yes, it's a hand off from LA to NYC...

Now, can we get back to my question please?

Probably just something coming down the network feed that's supposed to be covered up locally - just the opposite from my local NBC affiliate, WHEC-TV Rochester, which regularly covers the open of "Weekend Update" with the end of a local spot.
______________

I know what you are talking about, but these were going into every national break...

Where was the box? Could it have been a malfunctioning Namedropper? (The Namedropper is an automated logo insertion system that keys the local station's ID over the network programming when it receives signals from NBC Skypath control.)
______________

At the risk of incurring the wrath of Garrett again...
(maybe he had too much chocolate this morning ;-)

If an affiliate doesn't air a show "in pattern" from
the various sat feeds or otherwise has to record
(to tape or digital delay system) a show for later
playback--think AZ in the summer--is the Skypath signal
for Namedropper embedded in what was recorded so upon
airing it also triggers the local ID?

Yes... As long as your playback system is wired correctly.

What you see is a power-down of LA and a power-up of NYC... When NBC comes out of LA, there's a roughly 2 second delay in the network.

I'm not 100% positive, but I'd bet those are also played from LA.

Re: And, getting back to the subject...

Would this possibly have something to do with HD/widescreen versions of the show being shown to analog viewers as well? Perhaps a screenshift or switching of sorts? It does seem to resemble the screen dimensions of a non-HD signal on a HD set in widescreen mode, as the box disappears. The local newscast here in town that provides "widescreen digital" video does this as they enter commercial breaks and switch back to normal.
