Trapper to stay in Cleveland?

Pure speculation here:

95.5 The Fish - he is a man of faith and would be a big catch for the fish. (Get it! HA!)

105.7 - Lanigan has another year to go. Could Trapper be brought in six months down the road, perhaps squeeze him in somewhere until Lanigan walks away, which despite VODOOD's first post in 2008 saying 2009 was his last year, could be anytime?

107.3 - PPM's have been steady for WNWV, but he could be a big get IF the music is moved more towards AC. His chatty approach on the current WAVE is sort of a mis-match.

Trapper does have connections with Rubber City (namely Sue Wilson), so that is definitely a possiblity.

The actual music on the Wave shouldn't be a hang-up. Smooth AC is a hybrid mishmash of soft AC, urban AC, and smooth jazz. It's a female targeted station, which is right up Trapper's alley.

Trapper would be a good fit on the Fish, but would Salem pony up for a high priced free agent?

And Lanigan goes when he wants to go, so any Trapper/Majic talk should be set aside.

Not to mention would Trapper even want to go to Majic? His best bet is Rubber City/WNWV. His former 'DOK co-workers are already doing regular or fill-in shifts. If Nancy Alden is brought in full-time to join Dan Deely and Bobby Thomas, along with possibly Trapper and maybe Jim and/or a different co-host, 107.3 could actually be a serious threat to 102.1.

Trapper, Nancy, and Infoman in the morning?

Hmmm....

WNWV would have to move more towards AC to make this work. I do think that WDOK's changes have left a big hole in the market that a soft-leaning AC could fill. If they wanted to make that leap Trapper could be the cornerstone of that move. Of course, RCR would have to make a serious commitment to talent and promotion if they wanted to jump into that battle. I, for one, would like to see them take a shot at it.

Well, RCR did make the effort and spend the $$ to buy 107.3 to begin with, so that should incdicate that at minimum they wouldn't be adverse to making future investments in it.

They would also have to distance themselves from "The Wave" name and image, which still says "smooth jazz." A different name or going by as "107.3 WNWV" might help if they want to go the Soft AC route.

Wasn't WDOK still in their "Soft Favorites" phase when Trapper Jack joined the station in 1995? They slowly evolved into "Soft Rock" by '97-'99. I remember seeing an ad in the PD's Friday magazine where 'DOK invited abandoned WLTF listeners to switch stations. This was after "Lite Rock" became "Mix" in '97.

I just hope 'DOK doesn't suffer from the same fate 'LTF went through after Trapper left.

Yes, they probably woulld have too distance themselves from "The Wave" name and image. IIRC WDOK was still imaging as "Soft Favorites" when Trapper came aboard.
WDOK seems to be heading down the same road that WLTF went down some 15 years ago. They tried to keep things going while slashing budgets and letting name talent go. WLTF's arrogance and cheapness opened the door to a strong run 10+ year run for WDOK. I have no sympathy for WDOK now. Their wounds are self-inflicted.

WDOK has adjusted their mix. Now its more 90's through today with less 80's than usual. My guess is no more 70's as they're getting younger. I can see how they changed the morning show.

UPDATE: Tim Richards has been filling-in with Jen Toohey on the morning show. I wouldn't be surprise if he gets the position full-time. That could mean another hole to fill at Q104.
