trashed AM/analog

Here is an example of how the analog of an AM iboc should not sound.

AM iboc analog hasn't sounded like this for 5 years, my guess is that RadioDisney's wqew (1560) is using the "gratis" analog processor that comes with Ibiquity's exciter. If so, they ought to dial around and notice that the other AM's are using real processors these days.

At the end is a few seconds of WWRL (1600) which is all analog w/11 year old tx and totally rebuilt antenna system (25KW) This one was AM stereo by summer 1997 and for a few years thereafter. Too bad it's had no luck w/ratings it is one of the best sounding analog am's in the city.

My guess is that, Radio Disney hires a few that care little about analog conventional AM audio quality—OK... considering all those mothers in the family SUV without an HD radio that want like to join their juniors and listen. The audience obviously doesn’t matter in the penny-stock corporate radio kingdom – It’s all about propping IBOC that Mom can’t find at Walmart – and Dad wouldn’t buy after a hard-earned afternoon trip to his broker ::)

This is such A JOKE!!!

My amateur guess is that they compress the hell out of the music and then over modulate the transmitter so it's really obnoxiously loud. All radio Disney's I've heard have sounded like krap, of course some of that could be the stuff they play too. Then put IBOC on top of it all.. shudder......

This clip is the poster-child example of how bad iboc can be ( and was ).

Thank goodness the major signals don't sound like that anymore .
