Trayvon And Noam

The priorities at WABC really amaze me.  They can haul in a host in the late hours of the night to talk about a verdict in a court case in Florida, but air infomercials the morning after Hurricane Sandy hit NYC and NJ!  Amazing!

I have no way of knowing this, but I suspect Noam may have taken the initiative to come in and cover the verdict.

WABC has been lucky over the years to have at least one motivated individual on staff who would go above and beyond to give the station a perceived immediate, local presence. It used to be Curtis, now maybe it's Noam.

I doubt that. One news guy does not blow out infomercials. Give the PD some credit guys. Plus since Geraldo was down in Florida I bet they had some kind of contingency plan afoot.

Well it wasn't possible to attack liberals about Sandy so they really didn't have anything to talk about that day. Zimmerman fit their agenda though.

Good for him! It's nice to know somebody actually cares about trying to educate, inform, entertain -- all the stuff they give lip service to.

I think you have to realize that these folks work for Cumulus...a company that wants to make money at all costs. While there are many people at WABC who would like to do a good job, they must work under the restraints that Cumulus puts on them. WABC is almost 100% syndicated with a 2 man news department. Just how many resources does the OM have that he can use??? I think you have to give him credit for making the best use of what he had and for doing the best job he could. WABC is not WCBS or WINS and to expect anything like the job they would turn in is ridiculous. As long as there are people willing to spend big bucks to buy an hour on WABC on the weekend, Cumulus will demand that those infomercials be on the air. Be it the whiny guy selling vitamins or the doctor selling his $5000 body exams or the mutual fund folks, as long as that money is available Cumulus will demand it be brought in. So lets remember that there are probably a lot of good radio folks at WABC who would love to do the kind of job you'd all like and that their hands are tied not by their lack of caring or knowledge but by working for Lou Dickey! Let's put the blame where it belongs.....

I think WABC and Noam are doing their best with what little tools they are given to cover breaking news. Its not the old days - with huge budgets - and lots of reporters. Listening though you can't tell the difference ...so I guess kudos to the talent

They also seem to have a pretty good freelance crew. I've heard CJ Poppa, Scott Solotto, and Matt Doll lately doing some fill in work, so kudos to whoever is putting a staff together. When you've only got Noam and Kenn Dufty on staff, you gotta do what you can when the shit hits the fan!

I think some do...like the traffic guy. It use to be Shadow but now it's Radiate I think. Isn't that part of Cumulus?
